The biggest issue with last night was this bloody Gold Coast game. If we didn’t have to play that on Wednesday, the Carlton game would have been Saturday or Sunday during the day. That would have got more than 50,000 instead of Thursday night.

I know we hate Essendon at present, wish for it to fail, burn to the ground and play its games at a park in Keillor, that’s what it deserves… But!
in 2028, Hawthorn will almost certainly be bringing its 4 X Tassie games back to Melbourne. It will be pushing for at least 3 of these to be at the MCG with Marvel the fourth. Most likely, it should expect 2 x MCG / 2x Marvel.
This is where the fight is on. If Essendon is any good, has any fight left in its weak, introverted and complicit self, it will see this ‘opportunity’ and be fighting for its long chase for extra MCG home game(s).
Right now it’s best efforts have been hopeless imo. St Kilda stole a guaranteed extra game from it. It has only achieved one extra MCG game every second year. At worst, secure that 5th MCG home game annually. So, chase a 6th game and end up with 5th game guaranteed. That’s acceptable. Not a huge result but acceptable.
What would be a a really poor reflection on this Club is that if the Hawks swam in and get an extra 2 + MCG homes and in the games around the negotiation other clubs secure more games too with Essendon not benefiting..
It’s up to the Board and Tim Roberts. Circa ~75% of members want more MCG home games. Essendon has been angling for more games for a decade. It’s incumbent on the Club administration to do its job and be in the fight. If it has any interest in fighting anymore. Gloves off.
I will be watching with interest. I have zero confidence in the clubs administration and expect them to come up short and squib it by saying its focus is on winning games.

You keep rolling out this nonsense discussion. Why the Fark do you care , you live elsewhere and don’t attend games. I would rather watch footy at Marvel than the G, especially when we are clearly the worst Team in the competition and for the rest of the year, our games will be poorly attended. I reckon even Anzac Day will be underwhelming this season.
My scribes tell me that EFC is financially better off at marvel, so why do you keep pushing a change.

I think the best thing for the club would be every time we ask for something from the AFL, unless it is for help to try turn our performance around, they just point and laugh as us.
Really make it clear to the current administration how far we’ve fallen.

going in and demanding that essendon (non-tenant) gets additional games instead of hawthorn (tenant) would get laughed at anyway
The same type of business boffins as the guy that keeps reviving this thread decided to leave mcg for money. So the club should just stfu and get good before demanding more mcg games.

St Kilda weren’t laughed at. They just fight harder, show ambition and execute a bold strategy. And they have half the size of Essendon supporter base. They stole an extra home MCG game.
At least we should acknowledge the Saints are willing to fight for what they want, on and off field. Essendon are weak and insipid. Period.
Because I prefer the MCG. My family prefer the MCG and so do most fans. Scooter tweet in 2023 aligns with clubs internal member survey results.

We have plenty of problems at Essendon and our Marvel tenancy is one of them. After everything the club has put fans through over the past couple of decades, the least it could do is give us one thing they actually want – a gradual but eventual return to the MCG. As we’ve seen first-hand, Marvel is where clubs go to die.
What a time to be following Essendon.
Not only can we go to the AFL and ask for priority picks because we’ve been so ■■■■ for so long, (but not ■■■■ enough) and in the same sentence also ask them for extra MCG games because when we do turn, you want us there and think we can get both across the line.
They are two poles apart requests that shouldn’t need great foresight to ask for…
We should also ask for more Friday night games so we get prime time exposure…
You get your rewards when you earn them.
They aren’t just given.
When we match the requirements that other clubs have met to get a priority pick, we’ll get it. We are three rounds into a bottom 2 finish yet, we deserve it when others get multiple years.
When we get larger crowds against interstate teams at the MCG, we’ll be able to shift those games there. Until then, Marvel it is.
We need performance on the field.
No one is racing to watch us with the dross we hand out weekly. Regardless of whether it’s at Marvel or at the G.
Until we actually have people wanting to go watch us, we’re just trying to grift everyone for more based on what we did 30 years ago. That’s from fans, members, AFL, broadcasters and any other stakeholders and people of interest.
You earn trust by your actions, not by negotiating your way into what you think you’ll be. Especially with our 20 years of history.
There are at least sixteen other clubs (and that’s being kind to us) that are more trustworthy to believe they’ll play well enough to warrant more games at the MCG based on our last twenty years (let alone twenty).

Do you really think we have a crap Team because we play more games at Marvel ?
If this continues, by 2028 we will have 60,000 or less Members and AFL will not give a crap as we could not fill the G even if we had extra games there.
ironically enough, our strongest case for more games at the mcg (rube fans who will continue to pour money into a horribly mismanaged organisation) is the main reason the club won’t actually reflect on what is needed for on-field success

I’m not referring to our on-field performance – that’s a separate issue. I’m looking at it purely through the lens of the supporter base, who overwhelmingly prefers watching us play at the MCG. I’m saying: give the fans what they want. It’s the least the club could do.

If we started from a decade ago, by now we would have lost all trust.
2016 - when we get our players back, we’ll be wanting more MCG games. We’re on the improve, give us games.
2017 - come on, we made finals. We got Stringer, Saad and Smith. We’ll going to fill the MCG, give us more games.
2018 - Fark. This year wasn’t us. We got Shiel now. We’re going to fill the MCG. Give us more games.
2019 - Come on. We made finals again! We’re only a few years away and we’ll be just like it was in 1999! Give us games at the G.
2020 - Erm… We don’t need Daniher or Saad. It was all Chyna’s fault for covid. Come on give us games at the G.
2021 - Yeah! Whoosh wasn’t the guy. We’ve got Rutten. Don’t listen to the blue collar rubbish, everyone’s gonna want to watch the Stringer Parish show. Give us games at the G. You need the money after the covid shitshow.
2022 - Erm… Rutts wasn’t it. Our percentage is a mirage. We really are a great team, trust us. Haven’t we been honest with you up until now. We’re not that far away. Give us more MCG games.
2023 - Yeah. Erm. We lost our last few games by an average of 100 points, but that was all injuries. Wait until we get it back.
2024 - Yeah. Erm. The finish was crap, but trust us, we were top 4 for two months. And we filled [looks at data] the MCG with 55k against Geelong! Trust us. We’re not far away. This is like investing in Bitcoin when it was at 20k. Look at it now it’s 100k. Give us more MCG games.
2025 - Yeah. Erm. That was all injuries. It wasn’t us. I swear. Our home opener at the G against Adelaide got 47k. It’s like investing in Bitcoin. It’s now 120k. Come on! Give us more games at the G.
2026 - Erm. Yeah. Ugh. We’re losing but it’s just 15 minutes per game of lapses. We’re really a sleeping giant. It’s like investing in Bitcoin. It’s half the price it was a year ago. Get on us and give us more games at the G.
We’re trying to pass off Nissan Maxima for a farking prestige car when the last twenty years shows the complete opposite.
The only reason we are relevant is because the people who are old enough to remember our good periods are still alive and willing. But a 25 year old knows us for nothing but failure and incompetence. A 25 year old doesn’t trust us. They will when we show something decent on the field. We have shown fark all in this decade and probably won’t show it until next decade.

Off field, more games at the MCG should among its most important priorities. It should be doing all the soft / hard negotiating it can to secure additional games.
In 5-10 years the Warne Stand will be rebuilt and it will be among the best stadiums in the world. It will be extraordinary for AFL. It will be bigger, newer and I’m almost certain it will have facilities and amenities that are world leading. And, finals footy is played there.
