Despite showing mild interest in a few opposition players (Bennell, Clarke, Dangerfield, Prestia, Howe etc), I expect we will have a relatively quiet 2015 trade period as far as incoming players are concerned.
We will obviously lose Carlisle, Melksham and two or three more but they will all predominantly amount to draft picks.
The mail I have is that Essendon is preparing to attract possibly the biggest fish of all time....operation get O'Meara in the 2016 trade period.
This year is about list management and freeing up the cap space. I believe this is partially why Stanton has only been offered one year. But Carlisle, Melksham, Fletcher, Winderlich and Chapman also help.
Don't be surprised this trade period to see us bank up a quite a few future (2016 draft) round two picks that will ultimately be used to secure O'Meara.
With Watson, Goddard, Stanton and Cooney in the twilight of their career, now is the time to be planning to fill the massive hole they will leave. Heppell, Merrett, Colyer, Langford and Laverde are a good start but O'Meara will be the icing on the cake.
