Jake Melksham

How long did the thread full of myers bashing get?

I wanna say 500 pages.

I had contemplated printing out and doing a spiral bound edition for prosperity.

Then the crash happened  :(

One of the biggest non-Saga threads of all time.

Melky will probably keep getting games over some of the younger guys purely thanks to his more advanced physical development…eg. Crowbots are a big bodied team aren’t they?

Jake did play much better footy in last year and deserved his spot as a result. I don't think Jake is an elite footballer, but definitely a great contributer and backup for our mids. I think playing with confidence he will also win the odd game for us.
To get him there, however, takes leaving him in the middle and accepting he is going to make some (and maybe many) clangers before his touch and then confidence returns to finally deliver what he did. He really did play well under Jimmy who I think really backed him to play him and not drop him while he developed - which would've been a huge confidence boost in itself.

Can't afford that, not after 80-odd games.
Can't afford to have any player needing to be in a certain position before they find form and carrying them.
Working off of the Geelong model, which is what we are doing, they had guys who were and could be genuine midfielders who didn't play solely or prodominately in the midfield, who could keep up a very high standard of game no matter were they played.
Melk isn't doing that. Whether we like it or not he is not going to be spending the majority of games in an inside mid role, so like it or not we can't afford to carry a player who's confidence relies on him being in a position he just isn't going to be in alot, or if he does get some time in that role, due to injury, needing multiple weeks to build up confidence.
He is a guy, rate him or not, that has been gifted alot of games over the last 3 years, on the premise that they thought he'd develop into a Joel Corey/Enright role, ala not play solely as a mid but still contribute in other areas, and step in when need be.
Bar a patch last year, he is so far away from developing into that player, it's just not funny anymore.
When did Joel Corey play anywhere other than midfield?
Or, for that matter, Enright ever venture outside the backline/back flank?
Kelly, Bartel, Ablett and Johnson all Cats guns who swapped roles successfully but I don't think either of the Coreys did anything but what they were famous for.
Melks' form isn't good enough, often enough, that's about as far as it goes for me. He can play, he's just not doing it enough.

Gerard Healy thinks his arms are suspiciously large.

I’ve supported Melk, but he needs a spell in the VFL.

He was dropped for Round 5 last year for one game. It didn't happen straight away but he did step up after getting that wake up call.

Give him a break, they were all bolllocks last week.  The only dude to perform well was "not subject to ASADA investigation" spokesperson David Zahaharakis who said, " Oh no that's not affecting us".

Yeah, nah … even forgetting last week when he was ■■■■■■ dreadful, he has been too ordinary for too long.

Yeah!!!

He's been down too long at this point to justify holding back an opportunity for someone like Kav, O'Brien or Aylett.

Playing like he is injured.

Playing like he is injured.

A head injury maybe?

Official stats have him at 4 clangers v Melbourne.  I could swear I saw more than that

Was atrocious last week.

Can't understand him being in the team.

I reckon he has pics of Bomber doing something dirty with a salad roll.....

I don't what to go overboard.

BUT SERIOUSLY WTF?????

If Essendon can't drop a player after a game like that then f*** me, we're not setting very high standards for the players.

This sort of crap erodes our culture of success. It accepts mediocrity. FFS.

He'd have to play out of his skin to be considered mediocre.

Going a bit overboard

He beat Carlton off his own boot last year, he never ever gets dropped ever again. Ever.

Stays in because of the amount of reactions his selection gets.
