I had 2 friends diagnosed with this b@stard within 6 months of each other. A year down the track, one was mooted to be ok & looking like recovering fully, the other was screwed, 12 months later the reverse was the case.
Another 12 months saw us farewelling them both. An insidious pr1ck of a thing it is.
Statistics indicate he has about a 10% chance of dieing from this.
10% if it hasn’t spread.
The odds almost exactly reverse if it has.
My father had a little spot on his toe removed. 5 years later he was dead.
We can only hope they got it in time.

Roughy will be fine - Now that it shown that he is suspectible to skin cancers, he will have a 6 or 12 month check up at a specialist, who will immediately remove any suspicious spots.
I wish it was that easy.
Once you’ve had one, even after having it removed you’re never quite sure whether it is really gone or whether it will spring up again, on your skin again or somewhere like your lungs or spine some nice sunshiney day.
A friend of mine had a melanoma removed a couple of years back. 12 months later, it was back and all over the place inoperably. Currently its spread seems to have paused, but everyone is all too aware that this could change at any time and once it does, the downhill slide will be very fast.
Roughy will be very very worried for a very long time. It’s the luck of the draw from now on for him.
I was unaware it was a diagnosed melanoma, thought it was a removed spot that was to be tested for cancer or the like.
Have been visiting a skin specialist once a year for the last 5 years. He removes any suspicious spots and on one occasion sent a spot off for further investigation which proved negative. Anyway no spots removed this year which pleased my specialist.

Shows how much you do not know about melanoma.
Is the reporting correct - I read they are waiting for results of the sample.

Cancer isn't as simple as that
No it’s not. And it is scary if you get it. Very scary.
They call it the silent killer. My brother died from a melanoma on the top of his head. He was diagnosed with migraine. By the time they got the diagnosis right, he was dead with four months. Two days before he was due to go in for surgery.
What they do when they send it away to test it, is to make sure they get it all. They have to take a certain amount, 5mm I believe, past the tentacle of the melanoma. My son recently had three operations on his neck just below his ear to remove a melanoma, and they had to keep going back to take more as they results came back that they hadn’t got it all.
He had also had a pre melanoma removed at 17 so was always having six monthly checks. It’s an insidious silent killer.
All the best to Roughy.
Can we change the thread title please?
Knew about the knee but thought there must’ve been another cancer scare when I saw this thread with new posts and was quite relieved to find out otherwise
