Still doesn’t take away the fact that Joe asked to be traded, he don’t want to be here.
If he is going to sign on,it would be great to see them announce that, and he plays the rest of the year without issue
Then we all have alot more hope for 2021.
At the time I was all for Joe going, especially given the circumstances surrounding his request BUT, it feels like his body is good to go and that excites. We’re also led to believe he’ll stay, so having him play a handful of games helps takeaway some of the 2020 pain.
Couple of differences… Hird had already established himself as a bone fide star over many seasons. Yes Joey is a star… but nowhere near the same consistency even before the injury…
Hird was a midfielder… traditionally easier for smaller blokes to recover. Part of that horrific injury run was the unlucky contact facial injury.
Even Hird admits that he felt he never got back to the same heights after those injuries.
Hird also was known to be a ‘front runner’ in terms of recovery, fitness, rehab, diet etc etc… JD has never been known for that side of things.
So I get your point… and there are always exceptions… but for every player that comes back… there are 20 that don’t.
I’m still hopeful he does get back to his best and re-signs with the bombers for another five years… how awesome to watch him bombing goals and finger twirling again. I just think there are some huge risks and I would have taken the two picks if I’m in the chair… and the fact that Dudo didn’t… sums up why we suck.
Look, at the time of the offer, nobody knew where Joe was at with his body, and apparently we still don’t to a degree until he get out there and plays. To me we are being overly cautious ATM and to be honest, many players just play through OP… its major impact is on kicking IMO, you just can’t kick through the ball. In hindsight, yes maybe the club should have seriously considered the deal, I am sure that no one at the club has a crystal ball that could forecast the future of Joe’s groins last August or whenever it was. The comments on here are so easy to make…but its all in hindsight, back in August most would have said keep !
Now imagine where would we be this season if Joe fronted up early with his groins good to go…whereabouts on the ladder would we be??? Given we have lost 3 games by a bees ■■■■ (pretty sure a fully fit Joe is worth a couple of extra goals)…I’m going with firmly entrenched in the top 4 !!! (22 + 12 = 34 points) and therefore with a shot at a premiership.
So please…give it a rest, the club rolled the dice, it came up snake eyes. Get over it, clubs roll the dice on players all the time…look at Buddy and Sydney.
Note: I’m not a great fan of Joe Daniher, I think he is a bit odd & very immature for his age and can do silly things. He needs to, and hopefully has, grown up a bit in the last year or so…BUT there is no denying that a fit & dominating Joe Daniher could be one of the most damaging forwards that have donned the Black & Red ever, such is his talent.
Is this really true?
Everyone talks about picks we could have got in this trade and ignores the players we would have got with those picks. Picks don’t mean anything if the player your picking isn’t the one you want.
Pick 9 Carlton bid on Henry, matched by Freo.
Pick 10 Carlton bid on Green, matched by GWS.
Carlton trade pick 11 because they see nothing they want until pick 20.
Dodoro said if we had pick 9 we would have taken Harrison Jones and some might say thats just bs but if you look at that draft from pick 11 til 30 how many of those players would you trade Jones for? Theres a few you could say might fit our needs, a couple of unproven big midfielders but overall I think Jones would have been an okay pick at 11 and is a steal at 30. I think missing out on that pick 9 is not a big deal at all.
The future first rounder is the other half of that deal, thats looking like it might be pick 2-4 atm. That pick would be great to have and Dodoro might not have expected the swans to finish so low but we still might get a pick in the top 10 for Joe if he decides to leave. If Joe stays and is fit then it was the right decision. If he leaves and we get a pick after our first or similar value in trades we break even, any worse then that and we lose. It was a gamble and we have to wait and see what happens.
If Joe has signed on again, i hope it’s for minimum coin
I think I speak for 95% of people on this forum that we really love getting your insight and inside knowledge. Why both letting the other 5% get you down?
It doesn’t matter if you’re the juiciest peach in the world, someone is going to hate peaches.
psh what would you know anyway
What the heck?
I’m allowed to say that I don’t like these vague, no details, “story may change” posts that you and many others wrote to try and get attention.
And I never said I wanted you to, or you had to,
leave forever and ever.
Anyway, I’ll give you the response you (and all the other vague no details trade week posters) want when you post something like that.
“Please no, don’t leave, we really love you. Please stay pretty please”
Please do not do that. Your post today has legit given me hope and brightened my day up. I’m sure you’re doing more good by posting
There were some statistics floating around a couple of years ago that pointed to it being true. Not sure if still the same…
I would have thought the bigger issue is the type of player vs the type of injury… so if you are a natural ability leaper… and you get a lower body injury… does that affect you more than say a natural runner that has issues with dislocating shoulders…
So JD had groin issues… his brother retired with the same issues… which points to genetics and possibly running styles etc… so then you look at strengths… JDs leap and mark… he wasn’t overly quick on the lead for example… and how does this injury effect that? Another strength… the long running goal… does the OP restrict his deep kicking… and take that weapon away?
So possibly his two biggest weapons… high leap and long kick… are taken away… then is he the same player?
Versus a hot spot on the foot… that could be countered with rest, stretches, change in running style, reducing loads etc etc etc…

What the heck?
Anyway, I’ll give you the response you (and all the other vague no details trade week posters) want when you post something like that.
“Please no, don’t leave, we really love you. Please stay pretty please”
don’t worry @SMJ, i will never leave you!
I love you too brother. You and Woosha are my two great loves
I’m going with you but only because the gold chain turns me off
saying he will play Hawks on Thursday is hardly vague.
gives fans hope, and some lay off joe hypothetical trades, and missed trades last year for a bit.
And Fog will end up with egg on his face if he doesnt play.
So JD06 what will you be changing your Blitz handle to?
I would suggest IM22. Hurry Hurry Hurry.
Swans have an injury free year from their stars with both Franklin and 2nd half of year JD firing and they might well have made the 8 also. That might have meant a pick 11+ scenario again
They’ve been generally pretty competitive this year but missing their star power
Too easy for people to dump on club now with the woulda coulda shoulda with Swans sitting 17th
Had we have had a better run injury wise this year we’d have made finals for sure and he’d be crucial in our ability to actually win one.
