Jumper numbers for 2024

Thank you @swoodley
Not too far back for me (and a few others on here I’m sure). “Racehorse” was a legend in his long-sleeved #21, regularly belting around the wings back in the day.
A true fan favourite.

A relatively recent thing…goalkeeper was #1, the two full-backs were #2 and #3, the half-backs #4 and #6, centre-half and centre-forward #5 and #9, wings #7 and #11, inside forwards #8 and #10, and the one substitute #12.

Probably well into the 80s.

Rugby Union may well be the same even now.

I think that even into the 50s, with exception of captain and vice-captain, Collingwood’s numbers were assigned alphabetically.

Captain wore #1 until Ray Shaw rebelled and kept #23.

Port still run with that and hold the outgoing captain’s number vacant until he hands over the captaincy.

GUVE MORCS HER NUMBER BACK!

Hey, that’s a good point… let us not overlook the ladies.

So should we give famous numbers to them too, or let it grow organically? I mean Nanscawen is our #5 so I guess it kinda works already.

Let it grow organically.

Prespakis is doing an excellent job with 4 as is Toogood with 8. Amy Gaylor to make 23 the most coveted number in the AFLW side.

Courtney Johns, number 21.
