I think the difference is, if he had of gone into the draft he would have been taken as a first round pick.
Who?
who?
Ex GC listed cricketer. 195cm. Gave footy away to play cricket. Qualified as rookie B pretty much today.
Alex Keath?
Vics had him for a while but he ended up crap so they got rid of him.
He was supposedly a decent footy player in his youth before choosing cricket.
Not sure how this is a missed opportunity for us though?

Alex Keith. He will still play cricket next year whilst being paid by Adelaide to be on their list but if he fails at cricket he will try and play footy for the crows.
Thanks Fog.

Now there’s commitment!
How good a footballer was he as a junior?
By reports - VERY good. His decision to play football or cricket was anticipated for months.

Cross between Buddy/Abblett and Bradman is what I hear!
Kudos to Adelaide. Costs them nothing but a few $'s.

Yep, was listed by Gold Coast as a 17 y/o even though they were expecting him to go the cricket path. Played predominantly as a medium-tall leading forward type for the Murray Bushrangers. Apparently Scott Clayton kept in contact with him to try and get him to change his mind.
He didn’t do anywhere near enough for the Vics in Shield or list A and was well-down the pecking order for allrounders, so he moved to Adelaide to try and re-start his first class cricket career. He’ll play cricket over summer, and then apparently might switch to footy if he’s not successful this season.
Adelaide have taken a good punt here, but he was never an opportunity for us once he moved to SA.

So how exactly could we have taken him and still let him play cricket for an SA squad?
Geez talk about taking a whack at the club for no reason.
Was not taking a whack, just lamenting the lost opportunity to add another big guy for free.
To be fair, we’ve got a few guys who’ve barely played any footy in 5 years…
Crows catch cricketer Alex Keath as rookie

FORMER Victorian cricketer Alex Keath will play for Adelaide next season if he chooses to pursue an AFL career, after signing with the Crows as a category B rookie on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old key position prospect, who initially chose cricket over football back in 2010, is still considering in which sport his future lies.
Keath recently relocated to Adelaide to play grade cricket with Prospect and will juggle both commitments until the end of the cricket season at which point he will choose whether it’s Sherrins or Kookaburras that hold his destiny.
As revealed by afl.com.au in August, the Crows were in a race for Keath’s services with Geelong and St Kilda.
Adelaide football manager David Noble was excited by the athletic Keath’s potential.
“Alex has a strong background in football and he is someone we have tracked closely,” Noble said.
“Obviously he has been out of the system for several years, but he was an elite junior and that’s a good starting point.”
One of the country’s most promising prospects in both sports as a teenager, the Shepparton product was a 196cm key-position player with Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup and was one of Gold Coast’s initial 17-year-old priority picks in 2010.
However, in a decision that AFL officials feared would have a domino effect, Keath knocked back the Suns to forge a cricket career.
It went well to begin with, given Keath was a member of Australia’s under-19 team that won the World Cup in 2010 under the captaincy of current Australian player Mitch Marsh, and took four wickets for the Prime Minister’s XI against the West Indies.
He represented Victoria in seven first-class games and 16 one-dayers, and also played for the Melbourne Stars in the T20 Big Bash, but was cut from the Victorian Bushrangers squad at the end of last summer.
