My understanding is that North seem resigned to the fact that Kelly will choose Carlton and they have made a last ditch bid at Martin worth $1.5m x7
Not sure that it would have to be related to Gibbs leaving. Thomas took the trigger clause out of his contract, so his contract ends this year (which by the way I think the AFL should have opinions on given it’s his FA contract, but whatever), Simpson’s probably retiring. That’s going to free up over $1m right there. They’ll have a top 3 pick, which is a very strong starting position at the trade table. And realistically I don’t imagine the blues would have to offer more than north (who are equally shit but on the way down).
