Last Time They Met

Pig v Murphy 2014.

This.

Just this

Special goal that.
He had to kick it slightly off the edge of his boot(purposely), as he wasn’t able to straighten up fully because of the pressure.

I miss watching him at his best !

Fletchers run down of Garlett.
Can’t catch lightning. Pffffft!

Is lent there one where Zaka kicks the sealer on the run after an average game?

Spoiler alert

Lol at Simpson, cleaned up twice to cost them the game.

And I think there was a whole heap of off field stuff leading up to that one, was it the taking he Afl to court week?

Fark Carlton 9.22 ha!

Rnd 1 1997.

We win by 7pts and they have Greg Williams suspended for 9 matches for shoving an umpire.

Double win over the dirty dogs.

Rnd 20 2000.

Epic encounter with JJ having a huge final qtr to take us to 20-0 to start the season.

2000 Preliminary Final.

Revenge for the year before.

Yep, was Hird last game (or he at least knew it was his last game)

Was the Fletcher long bomb goal and tackle on Garlett the drawn game?

Also 2009 (or 10?) where we belted them by 10 goals and Lovett went on a rampage with two amazing run-goals… and Robert Walls had to sit there and cop it in the broadcast box…

One of my favourite recent Carlton Essendon games.

Laycock, Lovett, Jetta, Reimers. The whole gang.

From the video in the OP, the greatest mistake the AFL has ever made is dressing down the goal umpires. A hat, tie and jacket. A tie FFS. They’re never be a goal review ever again. The field umpire would take one look at him/her and think ‘they must know what they’re doing, they’re wearing a tie.’

Idiots.

Great days.

1993 Qualifying Final loss to them was significant by us having 5-6 best 22 out, with them being at full strength.

It also gave the club an important extra match in the finals, to give the returning injured players match fitness, considering the rash of injuries suffered in the final h & a game down in Geelong before having a bye before the finals series started.

This was in direct contrast to the 1990 finals series when the Qualifying Final draw between Coll and Eagles gave the club an extra week’s rest, after earning the week’s break for finishing top, threw our finals preparations into disarray. So much so that a hastily prepared practice match was arranged against Fitzroy at Windy Hill to keep the squad sharp, but alas, to no avail as they performed as flat as I’ve ever seen any Essendon finals side perform ever.

Along with it being the first ever night final, this was probably one of the most important finals losses the club had ever had, in a positive way.

It also lulled FC into a false sense of security into thinking that it could win a flag with players of the likes of Brad Scholl, Tim Powell and later in the finals Mark Athorn.

There’s a peculiar fondness for an era in which we were so rubbish.

Watching the game from 2013 has made me a bit sad.

Kommer and Melksham played about their best games ever, Jake C, Crammers, Paddy, Winders and of course Hirdy. What may have been!

For me it’s “remember when the biggest problem the club had was being not very good? Fun times.”

2013 was the best and worst season in so many ways.

2013 was the best and worst season in so many ways.

Only because this season is still very much a work in progress.
