You need to have a quality recruitment & List management department, with a solid List Strategy, to do a full rebuild.
I’ve yet to see this in 20 years.

The point wouldn’t be to “become bad”. The point would be to get additional early draft picks, and bring a cohort through together. It should also let you target stronger drafts by trading out at the right times.
And despite how “bad” you think we’ve been, we’ve “earned” a single top 5 pick in the last 4 years.
You need a board who will accept it. Dodoro would have been fine to implement it. He gets good value for trades and our pick success rate is high.
After all, Dodorro did build the 2012/2013 lists which both ran top 6 for significant chunks of the years before injuries and the Saga/finals ban kicked in. That list was well placed to progress if the saga hadn’t occurred.
I like it, I think outside the rookie list club should get 2 indigenous spots and you could add a VFL list spot too.
Teams embarking on full rebuilds dosent really exist anymore with the introduction of FA imo
Clubs do both hit the draft and recruit players to help fill gaps
There is nothing to suggest Dodoro was supportive of a rebuild and there is nothing to suggest we draft better than the best clubs.
Compare us to Melbourne’s recent drafting record and there’s no comparison
What @ivan said in the message you responded too was having multiple years at the boom of the ladder, not trading players for high picks
Hows that working out for north?
We’ll find out in 4 years. You have to wait at least 4 years for draft picks to develop, no?
Strongly disagree.
The types of players & their character haven’t been up to the standard of the best clubs. The recruiting team can’t identify, or worse, refuse to pick players who are either elite at the contest or elite with disposal.
That’s a fail for building a premiership.
If we went for a full rebuild with Dodoro and Forster-knight in the drivers seat, we’ll be sitting at the bottom of the ladder for longer than North Melbourne has.
They have been rebuilding since the likes of Higgins,Waite,Dal Santo etc retired
A rebuild is about utilising both, both the draft & trade/FA
Adelaide is the best recent example.
Agree which is what we are seem to be doing
No it’s not.
We aren’t rebuilding. We haven’t had a period at the bottom of the ladder, to regroup and build an elite list.
2016 dosent count?
Also we have finished close or near the bottom 5 a few times already
North’s rebuild started in 2020. They’re only 3 years in. Same as us.
Most of the reason for North’s position is their horrible list management across 2017 to 2019, trading firsts for Polec, etc.
Their drafting was also horrible from 2014 to 2019
The year our players got suspended? Seriously?
And then Dodoro & Forster-Knight f*cked the first pick.
Imagine how many more no. 1 picks we’d f*ck up, if we did a proper rebuild.
2016 - 18th
2018 - 11th
2020 - 13th
2022 - 15th
2023 - 11th
We had plently of access to talent in the top 20 of the draft clubs fault for not devloping them into good players or stars
And yet just one top 5 pick.
The jury is well and truely out with our recent haul of picks.
Dodoro will be ultimately judged on those players. That’s the reality.
I wanted Tarranto
GWS were going taking to take Mcgrath to be Heath Shaws replacment but Dodo couldnt help him self in wanting to draft a hbf
