List build - where are we going in the next 10,000 posts?

I don’t think we would, no.

We honestly don’t need to trade the senior guys to do that.

We have had a bottom 4 percentage the last 3 years and have been one win off pick 5 the last two years. Trading Stringer and moving on Hepp, etc is enough for this goal. Hell, if Scott had of just played Bryan over Goldy or Tsatas over Shiel, we likely had pick 5 this year

The long term deals would have also been done under Rosa.
Most teams are doing it to keep players away from Tasmania. Others are also doing it to front load contracts instead of wasting salary cap on players and reduce the cost per year towards the end of the contract so they can target other players.
The contracts also align perfectly with the AFL broadcasting rights (which end in 2031) which pretty much forms salary cap.
The players we’ve given long contracts to are very much valued by the coaches and list management group.

Yes, they aren’t worthy of the money or the contract length compared to the previous 20 years. But that is where things sit in the competition at this point in time.
Clubs / list managers are more comfortable now trading contracted players than getting compo draft picks.

This a good point

I mean Rosa only started with the club in October 2023, so he didn’t have a hand in all of them.
2MP, Parish, Redman were definitely sorted before him. You’d assume McKays contract would have been agreed to long before the actual signing that October.

Only really McGrath, and Ridley.
Duzz and Jye signed for 4 (hardly long in todays landscape).

Dodo was there still while all of these got negotiated, it seems his final swan song. They announced Jyes on the 14th of Aug, and Dodo bounced on the 16th.

Every club is offering long term deals to a group of 5 to 7 players who are considered core players moving forward. Every club will have their hits and misses with this cohort, but clubs can move on these players if circumstances change. I have no issue with the players chose to offer long-term contracts.

Agree, AFL contracts are very fickle these days - hardly the locked-box they might have once been.

I think we’ve done OK in this off season so far

Effectively we are going to lose Stringer & gain Kako
That and cut a few old timers/deadwood in Heppell, Hind, JDavey & Weid

We have plenty of midfield depth: Durham, Caldwell, Parish, Merrett, Shiel, Tsatas, Hobbs, Setters
Defence looks OK if Reid & Ridley can stand up…
Forward line needs some tweaking but we can build around Caddy & Langford + Martin will likely play forward in 2025. I think 2MP, Jones & Perkins will improve, & then we will have the likes of SEH & Kako that will add X-factor

Can’t see us losing a game.

You don’t belong here, you’re way too positive

Not sure every club will have hits and misses, take us for example, we’ve only missed.

Can someone please post this article?

Was an article from last month that was shared a while ago.

Doesn’t have much substance other than to say Vozzo and Rosa have presented a three year list build strategy that has been signed off by the Board

So post draft, these are the outgoings and incomings thus far for 2025:

OUT:

Heppell (retired)
Kelly (retired)
Stringer (GWS - trade)
Hind (delisted)
Weideman (delisted)
Baldwin (delisted)
Wanganeen (delisted)
J.Davey (delisted)
Hunter (delisted)

IN:

El-Hawli (2024 MSD)
Kako
Gerreyn
Clarke
Unwin
Johnson
Day-Wicks (R)
Nguyen (Cat B Rookie)

9 off the list, 7 on (technically 8 but Cat B rookies are a different cohort). So 2 spots still open for SSP/DFA signings, which most people would say Jaxon Prior as a DFA and re-committing to Baldwin as a SSP will be what we go with there. Overall no massive big-name recruits from other teams, but getting rid of some dead wood and bringing in players that have attributes we need could be a solid start for Matt Rosa in his first year as the list boss without Dodoro and his BS.

For the first time in years I feel we have something bordering on a balanced list.
We, finally, have planned & picked for positions and roles. I’m not saying they are perfect players, or we are going to win finals with them; but, I feel we are heading the right direction structurally.
In still have serious concerns about the Coach’s ability to take us anywhere; but, thankfully our list management and recruiting finally has taken a positive turn.
