List build - where are we going in the next 70,000 posts? (Part 3)

McKay is as useful as Breasts on a Bull.

He would be the first player I would jettison if any offer came for him.

Trouble is none will be forthcoming.

Same could be said for the rest of that senior group Merret is the only one clubs will come for

Very really possibility we are stuck with them no matter how much people want them gone

Put yourself as an opposition club would you want any of Parish,Langford,Redman etc who are constantly long term contracts he’ll no

We can get rid of them all very easily.

Not when there are not takers and on long contracts

If we think they are no good what makes you think other clubs will want them?

We traded for some of them. We can also pay portions of their contracts.

We could

I say them being injury prone will be a far bigger turn off for rival clubs

Can anyone summarize where we went in the last 10 000 posts?

  1. Unplug the club at the powerpoint

  2. Re-install Windows

ā€œSack everyone"

Ok it’s looks like this is where we started:

That went well.

Everyone sucks at fantasy football on bomber blitz and noones winning a prize :trophy:

Langford would be an easy trade.

Parish, we would have to pay a chunk of his contract.

Redman, maybe depending on the deal

The immediate drafting of Hobbs certainly didn’t help that balance….

He’s contracted you pelicans

Nino, how on earth can you see the same games as everyone else and still come up with this list?

It’s as staggering for the inclusions as it is for the exclusions.

Ridley is broken.

McKay is the most overpriced and underperformed recruit in recent history.

Redman has fallen off a cliff, been airlifted back to the top and rolled off again.

Merrett, yes

Nino, pls.

The HS rag has suggested that Bullogs player Buku Khamis is open to a move for greater opportunities. Worth a look?

Another half understand that gutting the list or being loyal to favoured players are both immature posturing.

I genuinely thought he was out the door but lately he has been engaging more with the other players

We keep blue screening!

I encourage people to go and listen to Rodney Eade talking about Melbourne’s situation on Footyology.

While it wasn’t about us, he provided some gold about list management at AFL clubs from a coaches perspective and what goes on behind closed doors.

The 3 big take aways:

  • The Board, CEO and people in charge of List management are too emotional to make ruthless decisions on players and the list strategy.
  • Clubs almost always over rate their list.
  • Clubs are far too loyal to players, which often holds them back.

He talked about being a coach and wanting a player traded (I got the sense it was because of cultural reasons, as it was response to Clayton Oliver). And the List manager said ā€œoh no, we can’t get rid of him, because he’s a good clubmanā€.
