List build - where are we going in the next 70,000 posts? (Part 3)

That is one almighty depressing looking list of rubbish pick ups by our club. Anyone says to me Dodoro was a good recruiter I shall point them in the direction of this.

This is perfect well done. From this year’s draft it’s Schubert and Marsh as the forwards and maybe then just our NGAS. At least that helps the forward line. For the midfield if we can’t get Duursma it may need to wait till next year

and none of them have played in a winning final…..and they’re our mentors :winking_face_with_tongue:

What sort of forwards are Schubert and Marsh?

No midfielders available at our picks, assuming it’s 5, 6, 7?

I don’t as a rule watch too many other afl games besides ours but when i do i quickly come to the realization that our list is miles away from it, the kids aren’t the problem either, the sooner we turn over the senior players the better.

Parish, Gresham, 2mp,Guelfi, Setterfield should be either traded or delisted.

Schubert massive kid great contested mark. Marsh always makes good decisions great mark. Both great kicks.

who is there at our pick for midfielders? Some interesting ones like Sam Grjl but it’s not like last year not as strong. Phillipou will be later in draft so will Barker. There are some slow inside guys as well.

Think we’re good for those

I don’t think he will slide too far, probably around the 10-15 mark

Yeah I agree. Would be great at that range

I’m a little reluctant to trade both Parish and Langford. We need at least one on the list to point to as the vets holding us back / proof we aren’t really rebuilding.

Too right. Every crap list needs a good scapegoat or two.

Don’t worry too much about lacking scapegoats. McKay and McGrath are going to be around for a looooong time yet.

Yeah looking at that, there is no option but a rebuild. Too many failed picks and trades.

I think we all need to expect bottom 4 for the next at least one prob two years before we can even think about it.

Also means Scott will prob be gone at the end of 27.

Tell I’m wrong But wasn’t he on the selection panel for each game up until he was told no more

That’s all you need to know if true ,

Our current list 2026 starting best 23 looks something like;-

McKay Reid Ngueyn

Redman Ridley Roberts

Clarke Merrett Duursma

Durham May Kako

Langford Caddy Unwin

Bryan Caldwell McGrath

Bench: Tsatas Parish Johnson Blaki

SUB: Guelfi

Emergencies: Prior Laul Perkins 2MP

Obviously a lot of water to go under the bridge before round 1 2026 with trades and drafts etc, but thats probably close to the best lineup we could field as things stand now.

Strengths: Solid defence, up and coming kids: Clarke, Kako, Roberts, Nguyen, Caddy look good + maybe Tsatas? Unwin?

Deficiencies: Mids still look small (except for Durham), forward line still work in progress

If we can keep most of these guys fit, recruit a few experienced players (need big bodies mids) I think we have enough talent to push for an 9 - 13 finish in 2026

Or you just keep churning the guys who constantly keep letting us down and weed them out to a point where we hopefully get a group that is headed in the same direction. If that takes 2,3,4 or 5 years so be it. All players need to be given ultimatums and a list of non negotiables they need to adhere to otherwise there will be punishments

We won’t be able to tell because the players won’t be in situations to let us down. We’ll be playing low stakes football at the bottom end of the ladder.

Yea but, we could end up like Norf…….

Non chasing, one armed “fake tackles” , lack of effort. these are the types of non negotiables that can be seen no matter the score and need to be punished.
That McGrath pathetic tackle effort for instance should see him called out and automatically dropped for the following game if that happened during the season. At the moment there is zero punishment for serial offenders
