List build - where are we going in the next 70,000 posts? (Part 3)

Didn’t say I would, didn’t even mention Caddy.

Didn’t even say we are a smart club.

Perhaps it will be others that willingly trade surplus players to Tassie for overs, or perhaps it will be us.

I have significant doubts that any elite, young, wanted player will be packing their bags for Tassie.

I don’t think Tassie will have much choice but to be interested in lower tier players due to a lack of interest from the top end (other than perhaps some older players looking to pad out their super)

Parish level players is the type of market Tassie will be playing in.

Did you think Gary Ablett Jnr would go to GC?

GC is/was a much more attractive destination than Tassie.

And who else did they get? Campbell Brown, Nathan Bock, Jared Harbrow. B graders.

Tassie has the biggest disadvantage possible.

It’s in Tassie.

I’ve never been to Tassie, but can be convinced with a $5mil sign up fee.

Didn’t Nick Daicos not shut the door on a potential Tassie move

That 5 mill is a pool. If Tassie wants they might throw it at one player, not sure it will work though.

The high end will get paid well no matter who they pay for.

Its the b graders that will jump at the pay day.

Smart.

Gets a pay rise to play on the mainland while using Tassie as leverage.

Clever clubs will be leaving some b graders coming out of contract for when Tassie comes in to see if they bite.

They will sign up the ones they want beyond that.

I don’t get out of bed for less than $5mil

The fact there’s few, if any indigenous players who we’ve delisted that went on to flourish at other clubs so not sure the argument holds weight that our indigenous program is failing.

I think it comes down to an extension of our poor talent identification and player development history in general as much as specifically an indigenous welfare problem.

There’s plenty of elite country (and some city) kids who would jump at the chance of getting paid millions $$$ to live in a low key chilled out place like Hobart.

Just look at Daniher and Cameron as perfect examples. The pull to get out of the big city fish bowl has been frequently used as an excuse to seek trades. Could just be bullshit but think plenty like the idea of earning big bucks while living a quiet, remote lifestyle.

Only has to be 2-3 superstars to elevate a Tassie squad combined with draft picks and local talent.

Yeah not sure on those examples. Cameron only wanted Geelong, and if that fell through he was keen to stay at GWS.

Daniher lives in legitimately one of the most beautiful places in the country that’s still close to major cities.

And that’s two pretty rare examples that went to two completely different clubs in completely different parts of the country.

Tassie is just a completely different kettle of fish, particularly for a young, elite athlete. It isn’t the same as living in Torquay, GC or Byron.

That’s why all the young people leave.

I reckon people bagging Tassie haven’t spent enough time in right places. It’s incredibly beautifully and has top shelf food and wine.

I’ve spent a combined about 12 months of my life in Tassie, mostly for work but some business interest and some relatives have lived there for periods of time.

There is good food and wine everywhere, not just in Tassie.

The selling points are nice for a weekend away, it’s very quaint.

Someone like Angus Clarke is able to buy a Farm in the middle of rural Tasmania, and play AFL football.

It’s definitely a selling point for country kids.

The AFL are still considering letting players train in Melbourne and FIFO on weekends for games so they are concerned.

There is a heap of Tassie lads playing SANFL currently and despite the sign on fees to play in the VFL for Tassie most have turned it down.

As an expat Taswegian can testify that most young adults leave for work opportunities not necessarily lifestyle. If you’re earning millions to play elite level sport then can see plenty being attracted to a short to medium term career playing out of Hobart.

FYI it’s takes less time to fly from Hobart to Melbourne than it takes to drive from Geelong.

And it’s getting better. Was one of the strongest arguments to get the stadium up so that it will attract so much more investment in the State.

Not entirely true is it. Still got to get to the airport, on the plane, off the plane, into the city and to your accommodation.

It isn’t the same thing.
