List build - where are we? Where are we going next (Part 1)

Harley Balic looking to come back to Vic.

get him, hopper, rockliff.

best trade period ever (apart from goddard but thats FA so not like we gave up much). since robbing freo blind for lloyd/lucas.

Dodoro loves these.

The Sandringham Dragons product sustained a hamstring tear at training a fortnight ago.
Fremantle subsequently granted Balic indefinite leave for the second time this year to reunite with family on the back of the setback.
The decision will rule him out of any part in Peel Thunderā€™s WAFL finals campaign.
Balic has been dealing with personal issues that Fremantle have been reluctant to discuss publicly in the interests of the footballerā€™s wellbeing.
The Weekend West can reveal that Dockers teammate Harley Bennell has been a significant figure in Balicā€™s life over the past 12 months.

Well, no red flags there. Bring him in.

BRING HIM IN

From what I hear he has a fair bit of offield baggage. Iā€™d definitely have a look at him for the right price though. As long as they can play well Iā€™m not too fussed about their personal lives

About the only thing missing in that article is some connection to Charlie Sheen.

ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  who?

We should aggressively target a midfield jet, an unlikely veteran and an obscure prospect from a non traditional market.

Get Balic and Dusty Insta premiership

Not unhappy with that philosophy really. Freo doing a similar thing building around Fyfe with recruits like McCarthy, Bennel and Hill.

Stewart was a huge find for us in this age group, Green handy too. That said, if we want proper talent in that bracket weā€™ll have to be prepared to part with draft picks, something weā€™ve been reluctant to do in the past

Iā€™m pretty sure Dusty wonā€™t be leaving unless he moves interstate or we pay him so much itā€™ll cost us going forward.

To be honest thatā€™s just basic sense considering for too long weā€™ve had massive gaps between playing group ages. For over a decade it has seemed that weā€™ve just gone in circles, a few former guns retire and the few top enders we have pick up the slack waiting for some kids to develop and help them. Rinse and repeat.

I was a fan of getting Rocky to plug (what I see as) a hole in the middle, but if they are focusing on early twenties so they form a group with our young core then Iā€™ll accept not targeting older free agents.

Having said that they might want to actually recruit someone decent in that age group and not just trot that line out and then use all the picks to draft skinny 18 year olds.

Have we had any players debut this year except for mcgrath?

Indiaā€™s own Ben McNeice

So our only other player to make a debut this year is a mature aged player and we are 9th on the AFL ladder.
Oh boy wow wee.

10th actually. So thereā€™s that.

To be fair barring Morgan (who most people seem to have put a line through) the only guys on our list who havenā€™t debuted are Ridley, Begley, Mutch, Clarke. All first year players (who donā€™t often break into sides), Ridley has been injured and Clarke was a late round gamble. According to reports Mutch has been solid but no stand out, so only Begley really has a claim of being hard done by.

And of course our list management has been affected by the saga. Iā€™d expect us to cut a few more players this year than last and see a few debutants next year.

Mutch and Begley should have played at some stage this year. Just a taste.

I blame Crow.

So someone said we couldā€™t delist or trade 10, here they are.

Bird, McKernan, Stanton, Hocking, Merrett, Watson, Kelly, Howlett, Myers, Dea, Looney

Hoping some of these do a Reiwoldt and retire as they have been great players.
