List build - where are we? Where are we going next (Part 1)

“Back” and “forward”

Ah thankyou.

I was reading it as “inside defensive” and “forward arcs” as if they were two very specific KPI’s.

Anyway… carry on.

Technically it means isnide fwd50 & back 50. But basically wank terminology.

I’m just going on what the club website tells me

And McNiece is now a standard rookie, not Category B.

Club website could be wrong, but it still has Jake on the Rookie list, though AFL 2017 draft does have Jake upgraded and I’m more inclined to agree with wiki than EFC.

Doesn’t mention whether McNeice is on Rookie or Cat B; but you’d assume McNeice would be the 4th on the rookie list

Yep, club website is wrong

Hopefully he gets an opportunity to prove he has something to provide at AFL level before they cut him. He is second on my list of kids I want to see make it.

Who’s your number 1?

Given he has Jerrett who likely to be cut continually outpeforming him at VFL level I’m doubtful.

Just doesn’t appear to be able to get involved enough. Is it work rate? Is it game sense?

Should be standing out at VFL level to be worthy of call up. He doesn’t.

Francis. duh

He’s a lock to make it

You’re right I just think he is one of those strange players that might do better in the AFL than the VFL. I doubt he could play a role in the middle; but as a forward, in either of Green or even Baguley’s roles I think he could provide something. He is faster than both, and would provide more defense than Green and probably more scoring than Baguley.

If Smith and Colyer are fit an firing he definitely won’t be in the team barring career best VFL form

Just thinking out loud… but can those type of players exist anymore.

It used to be that the space and structure of AFL allowed those type to thrive in a way the VFL didn’t allow. However the game has changed a lot. That space doesn’t exist anymore against good teams.

I was more talking about being surrounded by better players and being in a better forwardline, but AFL is faster than VFL and the pace could help him. VFL is pretty poor standard imo. SANFL is the premier state competition apparently.

Long was much more influential than Jerrett in the match I saw, and my impression from the VFL threads is that he’s upped his disposal numbers in recent games. Hopefully he can push ahead and earn a game since he certainly has plenty of strengths that could be good at AFL level.

But not as a forward IMO. He needs to push to replace the hole Zaharakis has left.

Long seems to like to do the defensive things more than the attacking things.

Don’t know if it is under instruction or not, but seems to forever be bumping someone, or shepherding someone.

I’d love to know what the criteria are that he has been asked to meet in order to get an AFL game.

Just curious, what makes you say that?

What exactly? Jake being better at AFL? I reckon he’d thrive off of the energy; and being in a better forward structure with a more defined role (ie DefFor, harassment specialist) with hopefully better delivery should bring out the best in him.

As for standard of VFL; regular watches would be best placed to comment, but whenever I see it it’s scrappy, overly contested with a wide level of skills disparity. SANFL has a more even comp and a better balance between contested play and WAFL style free flowing games. And the weather is better this time of year, that Willy game this weekend looked brutal, hilarious, but brutal
