List build - where are we? Where are we going next (Part 1)

TBH if you have to spend the first three paragraphs putting in caveats then you are going to struggle to defend your position. Just state your position and let people carry on all they like.

Thereā€™s a lot of truth in that reading; but ffs clearly way off in suggesting Leuey wonā€™t be on the list next year.

Heath Hocking gone.

Expected

So thatā€™s 4 players officially off the list
Watson
Stanton
Kelly
Hocking

3 picks plus PSD at the moment.

PSD has been cancelled the past two years and the year before that only one pick was made in the whole draft.

Eades as well?

Was he ok rookie list or senior? If seniorā€¦

Doubt there will be more if the draft is that shallow this year.

But next year, should be at least 5 delisting unless things magically turn around for certain players

Surelyā€¦ SURELY we are going to delist more than one playerā€¦ Jackson Merrett and Howlett?!

Absolutely. We tend to do ours one or two at a time over the course of a few weeks, rather that in one big block.

Iā€™d be fkn livid if we traded Francis Lang or Lav at this point in time.

How do you guys who want to move them on go in the stock market? Iā€™d be interested to see how our footy club goes with this ā€œdraft high, endure development, sell lowā€ strategy.

We are in an advisory position. Cut your losses, donā€™t try and chase them*

  • for future reference, Iā€™m not in the trade lav/Francis/langford camp, just had a comment for what you said

There are some things correct about the article, some things not. Like others it glossed over that the saga hit us just as the list was peaking (whether the peak would have been high enough, who knows).

I do think there have been several points in time (2007/08/09, 2015) when doing a full rebuild would have made a lot of sense.

Youā€™re just begging for Jbomber to come in here, arenā€™t you?

But seriously, heā€™s agreed we were building at that point. We both think its unknown as to how good the team would have been. The main point of contention of that element appears to be whether the midfield particularly was any good.

awesome article.

Well, ā€œdraft high, endure development, sell low (after 2-3 years)ā€ is actually better than ā€œdraft high, endure development, and hold on for 8-10 years of mediocre or negative returnsā€, due to opportunity cost.

Iā€™m not for a split second advocating the trading of Lav/Francis (iā€™m hopeful for both)), but iā€™m simply pointing out that the early cutting of losses is a very valid strategy, especially in the stock market - when the facts change, a change of mind is sometimes warranted. For example, if it were obvious to our coaching staff that Francis was a mistake because heā€™s simply never going to get the fitness base required for AFL, selling him at a loss now would be the smart strategy.

You canā€™t just trade blokes that contracted.

Laverde and Francis love the Bombers, I very much doubt theyā€™d want to leave.

Agree really rate him

Motlop has been flogged on blitz for a while.

He is having a very good game.

Wish Swans played this badly against us.
