With a week before the fortnight bye for Rep footy, some of the results in the Ammos were interesting in terms of possible finals and relegation places. Before that though, Chadstone have done it at last. First win for the season for the lowest senior team in the VAFA.
As AN eluded to, the Snowdogs one goal win over Trinity at the Snakepit sees the Snowdogs on top. In fact Premier footy presented results that were interesting, including De La’s impressive win over Beaumaris at Dairy Bell, which will give them hope of staying up.
Scotch escaped Harry Trott with a 5 point win, whilst the 2 Melbourne Uni teams both produced wins. Blues by a point over Carey and Blacks by 13 over Xavs.
8 games to go and the ladder sees the Snowdogs over Trinity by percentage; Carey, thanks to a draw with Beauy, sit 3rd and clear of Uni Blues, Uni Blacks, Xavs and Collegians. Scotch a game behind that group, whilst Beauy’s draw only has them half a game ahead of De La.
Premier B nearly had a huge upset. Fitzroy had a 2 goal lead over SKOBS at 3/4 time! SKOBS steadied, but Fitzroy now know they can play finals on the back of that effort. My match was a dour slog as the scores would indicate. Ajax were perhaps unlucky that OM’s kicked the only goals to the city end, in the last quarter.
St. Bedes did what they needed to against Rovers Old Brighton’s win over Mazenod places the latter right into relegation calculations again, whilst Parkdale’s win gives them hope of staying up, but, places Caulfield right in the gun.
The ladder has SKOBS undefeated and 3 games clear of St. Bedes and Old Melburnians, with Old Brighton a game behind in 4th. 2 wins separate the bottom 6 sides, headed by Fitzroy.
A comfortable win for Aberfeldie at Greenvale 13.18-8.8. Reimers didn't play but Toy best yet again..
The big surprise was Avondale Heights beating Pascoe Vale by 23 away.
Greenvale are a good side so I was pleased to see the result. I still think the Jets are a team that can challenge Abers more than Pascoe Vale. Avondale Heights may have left it a little late to save their season…
Meanwhile there is ruckus in the Riddell League as Kilmore want to move to the Northern League, setting up a rivalry with nearby Whittlesea, but the RDFL as a league is fighting the move.
Craigieburn look set to keep the likes of Cloke and co for the coming season, whilst the Caruso boys have headed to Greenvale.
Get my first look at Old Melburnians tomorrow, who sit 3rd and ready to pounce on any foul up by the undefeated St. Kevins or the hopeful St. Bedes Mentone, who sit just percentage above the boys from the Junction Oval.
Premier B sees Hampton Rovers needing a win to stop the rot that has set in over recent weeks, take on St. Bedes beside Bluff Road.
Old Brighton, who sit 4th have a match they need to win too in order to stay in the 4, taking on Mazenod, who are only just above the relegation zone.
Fitzroy, who have good recent form, host SKOBS at Brunswick St.
My match sees Ajax hosting Old Melburnians at Albert Park, whilst the relegation battle is between Parkdale and Caulfield.
The highlight in the VAFA is in Premier, as the top 2 sides, St. Beranrds and Old Trinity, meet at the Snakepit. Beaumaris travel to East Malvern and play De La in the relegation battle there.
Match of the Day in Premier C is at Monash Uni as the Blues in 3rd, host Haileybury in 4th.
In D1, the match of the day is at Ormond, as they host Kew (top 2 sides).
Watched Abers minus Brock McLean and Courtney Johns comfortably account for Strathmore by 94 points at Lebanon Reserve. Kyle Reimers kept in check with just the one goal, so ominous signs for the rest of the finalists. Abers finished with an 18-0 record and a percentage of 278, 4 games clear of 2nd placed Greenvale, who they will meet next week in the Qualifying Final at Coburg City Oval. Pascoe Vale plays Keilor in the Elimination Final.
