Local Footy 2015

Final score at the Junction Oval.

Old Melburnians 16.17.113
Caulfield 7.12.54

For me, it really was an honour to it - had the last goal and shot too - set shot from 40 to the Fitzroy St. End.

What is happening to the ground now?

What is happening to the ground now?

Vic cricket is using it for Shield matches I believe and as the home of the Shield team. No more shield at the G except maybe…just maybe…the final.

That and turning the entire complex in Victoria’s Centre Of Cricket Excellence. Heck…St. Kilda Cricket Club have barely been able to maintain their use of the ground according to some information shared with me on Saturday night.

As for Old Melburnians their future is up in the air.

Their last 2 home games for this season will be:

Against Old Brighton in Round 15 at Edwin Flack Park, Melbourne Grammar’s recent built facility on Todd Road at Port Melbourne;

and

Against Fitzroy (which was to be the final game ever at the Junction Oval), Round 18, at Elsternwick Park. Not bad getting on Headquarters a week out from finals!

Some interesting results over the weekend sees:

Old Scotch, for the first time since 1978, in real danger of the drop from Premier, with De La pulling off a draw at Carey. Carey’s 2nd draw for the season. Uni Blues, with Gil McLachlan actually helping to run the match BBQ, took care of Uni Blacks and setting up a big few weeks with them and Xavs for 4th.

SKOBS struggled to kick goals all day at Hampton Rovers, but still managed to win (7.21) - AJAX are back in the race after an upset over old Brighton and are now a game behind the Tonners (4th-5th). This allowed St. Bedes and OMs to get a game clear.

First game in Premier for more that a year tomorrow at last placed Beaumaris against 9th placed Scotch. Should Beauy win, it tightens up the relegation race. A win to Scotch and losses to De La and Collegians make the battle for 9th intriguing.

VAFA Finals venues are coming out…certainly the top 3 grades.

September 19 will see Premier B at Sportscover Arena whilst Premier C on the same day will be down at Sandringham.
September 20 will see the Premier grand final at a new home - Princes Park!

Scotch keep themselves within a chance of remaining in the top flight, which would be a 38th consecutive year at that level should they pull it off.

De La too keep themselves alive, with an upset win at Uni Blacks. Collegians drop in to 9th with another loss. Suddenly 1 game separates Blacks in 6th and Collegians in 9th.

One win also separates Carey in 3rd and Old Xavs in 5th after yesterday, whilst the top 2 are split by percentage.

Premier B sees SKOBS 4 games ahead of St. Bedes, but, 2nd-4th aren’t yet decided. AJAX are 2 games out now and with 4 left to play, can’t make it. Parkdale and Mazenod are the ones to fight for survival.

Premier C sees the top 3 separated by a game, Hailebury and Peninsula fighting it out for 4th, whilst Old Camberwell and Therry fighting to stay up. Willi CYMS in the first season in Premier C, will stay up now.

Division 1 is Ormond, Kew, Old Geelong. St. Marys look set to play finals, 2 games clear in 4th. Bulleen-Templestowe and Yarra Valley will go down.

Division 2 is seemingly clear cut. Elsternwick and South Melbourne Districts to go down - Ivanhoe lead St. Johns.

Division 3 is clear except for 5th-7th. Swinburne, Uni High and Glen Eira. Latrobe will go down as will Power House most likely.

Canterbury lead Division 4, but neighbouring clubs Westbourne and Point Cook are having a dogfight. Parkside’s first year back in the Ammos could see finals, but, need a win or 2.

The top 4 in EDFL Premier are 4 clear with 3 to go.

Aberfeldie are undefeated and 3 clear of Greenvale, who are one ahead of Pascoe Vale and Keilor.

Looks like a battle for the 2nd semi there…which would be favoured to get it?

The WRFL double chance will be is set to be a close finish. 2 weeks out from finals and Werribee Districts, Hoppers Crossing and Spotswood are separated by percentage. Werribee and Hoppers meet each other at Hoppers on Saturday. Spotswood hosts Sunshine.

3 weeks out from the finals in the Eastern FL Division 1 and you still have Balwyn and Boot’s Noble Park fighting for top spot, with just half a game separate Vermont in 3rd and Rowville 5th.

Also 3 weeks out from finals in the Northern FL and it’s wide open. Macleod and Greensborough fight out for top spot still. 2 games separate Eltham in 3rd and Heidelberg in 7th.

Meanwhile down south, it’s a battle between Dingley and East Brighton. But, with 3 rounds out, Mordialloc can still get top spot, but, East Malvern and St. Pauls East Bentleigh can only play for 4th/5th.

Divvy one in southern is an absolute lottery this year, great for the league,■■■■■■ nerve wrecking for dingley supporters.go dingoes.

South east league, formerly Casey cardinia, formerly mpnfl northern division, formerly south west gippsland is also wide open with Narre warren no longer invincible, berwick, cranbourne, beacons field and Narre all very even.very strong comp.

The biggest news from the other metro leagues is the loss by Vermont to Norwood and Noble Park getting belted by Balwyn.

Half a game now separates Norwood in 2nd and Vermont in 4th and Rowville are half a game further back. The fight for the double chance will go to 5pm Saturday.

This week’s final round sees Norwood travel to lowly placed Knox, Rowville travel to Blackburn, Noble Park hosting battlers Lilydale and Vermont hosting battlers South Croydon.

Out west, Hoppers Crossing’s upset win over ladder leaders Deer Park and Werribee Districts win over Spotswood sees the 2 winning sides get the double chance and play each other at Werribee Saturday. Sunday’s Elimination Final sees Spotswood play Altona.

Pascoe Vale and Keilor could still finish equal 2nd, just a game behind Greenvale, but, Greenvale’s huge percentage ensures they will stay there. However, the double chance is up for grabs, as is 5th with Strathmore’s percentage being greater but a game behind Avondale Heights.

Greenvale travel to Northern Saints, Avondale Heights are at Airport West, Keilor host West Coburg, Strathmore host Aberfeldie and Pascoe Vale host Maribyrnong Park.

Greensborough and Macleod are still fighting out for top spot. Eltham sit 3rd, but Bundoora a game back. North cote Park are game clear in 5th from Lower Plenty.

Northcote Park host Heidelberg, Macleod and Eltham is arguably match of the day, Lower Plenty need to defeat Bundoora to make it whilst the latter need to win to have a chance at 3rd and Greensborough travel to North Heidelberg.

Every spot in seemingly open down south. Dingley and East Brighton still have 16.61% between them. East Malvern are clear by a game from Mordialloc and St. Pauls East Bentleigh. 38.53% is the percentage spread.

Mordialloc host East Brighton, St. Pauls play in the local derby at Bentleigh and Dingley host East Malvern.

Aberfeldie smashed Pascoe Vale again and Keilor beat Greenvale (with Andrew Browne playing so he won’t be playing for the twos tomorrow).

Don’t know if the website was wrong or not, but none of the ex-AFL players were playing for PV. Run out of money?

Edit: they updated the website and they were playing. Earlier, it must have been showing the seconds side.

Was out at the Snakepit and the contest was fierce. Snowdogs would win, but, lose top spot to Trinity. Blacks are now equal with De La Sale and Old Scotch, with Collegians half a game back in the relegation spot.

Other significant results include Ormond confirming top spot in D1 beating Kew and going 2 games clear of them.

Intriguing double-chance battle in the WRFL. Hoppers Crossing, Spotswood and Werribee Districts have just a win between them with a week to go. Two juicy match-ups: Deer Park (1st) host Hoppers Crossing (2nd) and Werribee Districts (4th) host Spotswood (3rd).

Balwyn are well clear in the EFL, but Noble Park have Vermont breathing down their necks for 2nd. The 2 seem set to face each other in the qualifying final in 3 weeks time, but Norwood and Rowville aren’t out of the fight just yet, though the finals teams are locked.

Heidelberg are out of the race in the NFL, but Northcote Park and Lower Plenty can both still finish 5th, with 2 weeks to play. Greensborough can still finish top, whilst Bundoora can still catch Eltham for 3rd.

Finals teams are secured in the Southern. Dingley and East Brighton could both finish top. St. Pauls can still finish 3rd ahead of East Malvern and Mordialloc.

Aberfeldie saw off another top 4 team in seeing off Keilor comfortably…Reimers 6

I’m taking a bit of interest in the Hampden League. Koroit and Warrnambool had one loss each before today, until Port Fairy, wooden-spooners in 2014 and winless in 2012, beat Warrnambool in Warrnambool. Won by 5 after trailing by 4 at quarter-time. Daniel Nicholson, ex-Melbourne, is the Seagulls’ big recruit, but missed most of the first half of the year injured.

Well done to the Aberfeldie football club who raised over 10 grand for Neale danihers mnd charity on saturday.
Now 15 grand.

And here comes De La! 2 games left and the boys from the Dairy Bell are just half a game out of the 4 and the very shaky Old Carey. They aren’t alone. Half a game behind De la are Uni Blacks and Old Xavs, but, both aren’t in great form. De La’s win over Old Trinity knocked the latter off top spot - and now face St. Bernards at home. Could they do the double? Carey face Collegians, who are fighting relegation with Scotch. Scotch face Uni Blues. Uni Blacks have the trip to Shark Park and Beaumaris. Xavs have Trinity at Toorak Park.

Mazenod and Parkdale still fighting relegation in Premier B. Old Melburnians are the only threat to St. Bedes who sit second. St. Bedes head to local rival Old Brighton, who can still finish 3rd. Mazenod host Old Melburnians and Parkdale travel to Brunswick st Oval and meet Fitzroy.

All appears to be settled in Premier C. Therry are destined to go straight back down to Division 1 and are only an outside chance of swapping with Old Camberwell, who beat them on Saturday. Old Ivanhoe’s loss to Marcellin makes it hard for them to finish 2nd. Monash can still finish first, but, the Bulleen boys are in the box seat. Old Ivanhoe host Old Camberwell, Therry host Peninsula, Marcellin host PEGS and Monash head to the Bear Cave to face Old Haileybury.

Sadly, a significant brawl marred Kew’s local derby match against Bulleen-Templestowe and is now the subject of an investigation. An untimely distraction, with Kew’s premiership tilt in the finals just a week away. That said, the only finals spot up for grabs is Kew’s, with Old Geelong a game back. Old Geelong head to St. Mary’s Salesian (4th), with Kew travelling to Donvale and Whitefriars.

Division 2 finals won’t be settled till after 5pm Saturday. Eltham, Parade and Northern Blues are separated by percentage. Eltham host ladder leaders Ivanhoe, Parade head to South Melbourne Districts and the Blues host Monash Gryphons.

Swinburne and Uni High could swap spots in Division 3, but both will play in the Elimination Final. Uni High host Glen Eira and Swinburne head to Power House.

North Brunswick and Mount Lilydale are fighting for the final spot in the Division 4 top 6. North Brunswick have the bye, but, get an automatic 4 points. Mount Lilydale travel to 3rd placed Point Cook. North Brunswick’s bye puts them ahead of Parkside on percentage, so in their first year back in the competition, the Alphington boys play Manningham Cobras and a win ensures a finals berth.

Division 1 team North Old Boys/St. Patricks Ballarat, are set for a name change, with both of those elements and the Brunswick community around them, all part of the new name from next season.

My Lilydale “Mooroolbark” Rams

Reckons there’s about 12 guys I played with at Mooroolbark in the 1s there lol
