I recently found my copies of the round 3 match versus North and round 20 match versus Sydney are cactus. Both are entertaining thrashings, and as a bonus they both included my favourite player at the time Mark Harvey. Against Sydney at one stage he flattened Greg Williams in the middle - those were the days! With the AFL competition so grim atm I have been busy reliving old memories, and there is something about the 90s!
Would anyone have copies of these games? I would happily fix you up for your time.
I remember the Sydney game very well. I was visiting Dubbo and listened to the game on the radio (well, updates once every fifteen minutes, this was before Friday night telecasts). The swings in the scores over those time gaps were huge!
Amazing I could (just) pick up 3AW from that far away, with a handheld radio. Must have been a nice inversion. Certainly couldn’t during the day.
Thankfully, as a Sydney game it was televised on the Saturday morning.
Is the Sydney game the same one where Simon Madden smashed Gareth John's (or was that his dad's name) voice box?
EDIT: nope, that’s happened in the first game
No, that was the round 5 match at the SCG, and as I live 90km north of Sydney I was right on the boundary for that match. In those days the SCG crowds were so low I used to rock up at the beginning of the reserves and sit wherever I liked. Gareth came off not far from where I was sitting, and watching saliva pour from his mouth as he gingerly walked off was scary.
Madden kicked 7 and we dominated them, winning by more than 10 goals. Harvey seemed to be in a cranky mood that day and got involved in a bit. I loved watching Williams try and remonstrate with Harvey after he flattened him in the middle!
