I didn’t mind the experiment of redman in the middle. He has the size, defensive mindset and kicking skill to have been a weapon in there
Yes it didn’t work out as planned, but they acknowledged it and moved him into defence in the second half
At least there was some logic throwing him in there to combat the size of the hawks mids. It would’ve made more sense however if Durham too lined up in the middle
I think your last point I agree with the most. We had Durham who could have lined up on Day. Instead our coaches tried a bit of 4D chess moving the magnets around and it just didn’t work. Leave Durham in the middle, leave Redman in the backline, play Gresham in the forward and just make the hard call on either McKay or Reid (for mine Reid would have made it and McKay would have had to play reserves).
This is the week potentially to play three talls down back given how the Crows are playing. But now with Ridley down let’s see what magic pigeon Brad and co. pull out of the hat this week !!
My point being that the coach appears determined to name a line up however he deems appropriate whether that results in us being in the best position to win or not.
He said he believes his the right man for right now.
He might not be the right man in 2 years time.
Rohan articulated well how political the inner workings of the club is, including the self interest and back room favours.
You need someone like Brad Scott who simply will not tolerate that bullsh*t. I’m convinced that Dodoro would still be there, if Brad wasn’t made coach.
I know there has been the “oh why are we picking up North Melbourne’s rejects” narrative…. But perhaps we just need to start with bringing in good honest people, who are not more focussed on looking for buissness partners to launch a side hustle. But just want to do what’s right for the club, without the egos and politics.
Perhaps that’s the honest truth about where this club is at.
Still listening through this but loving it so far mate.
Loved Rohan’s points about the ruthlessness of Hawthorn, and then how we copped out in 2017 with our recruiting. I know there’s a lot of reason to be hopeful about Rosa, Vozzo and co… but I wonder if the Hawks were in our situation commencing another rebuild how much more ruthless they would have been? Will Merrett be around long enough to be part of our next list build? Are McGrath and Parish good enough? Why is Shiel still here and getting a game?
When Hawthorn rebuild they trade all those types of players. They don’t let sentiment get in the way of their team success.
I listened to the episode where Rodney Eade talked about Hawthorns ruthless culture.
The one thing that struck me, is that there is no question about it. Anyone who has played, coached and worked at Hawthorn knows that Ruthlessness is their culture. You can name it with one word.
Then look at us. Nobody can tell you what Essendon culture is, or what it should be. Most people can’t even agree on it.
That is a huge problem. It’s why so many people (players, supporters, etc) can’t buy into the clubs direction. Or that there is uproar regarding every club decision that’s made. Nobody agrees on the culture…… and this has been going on since the early 70’s.
Ours is simple. Always looking back and always looking for the next saviour, cause we dont dont want to do the work. and take the time to do it properly so we end up doing ti half arsed. Think the person that always has get quick rich plans but is always broke
Don’t believe me on that?? - Read any of the boards here or FB and it’s all hird will save us…come on people.
not for one second now do i think Scott is the answer - like our club, i think his trying to go in the right direction but his execution is lacking
We’re like the old drunk bloke at the local footy club turning up every week talking about the glory days getting laughed at behind his back
