Make the US Politics Thread Great Again

I think he already has plenty of access. And in 6 months he would be out and Trump will be tweeting about him being a loser. Not to mention that Friday’s filings by the SDNY and Special Counsel make 2019 look tough.

He won’t face a minute of jail time. He’s a leach that won’t let go and is impervious to salt.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he got another term.

He’s as dodgy as this link.

Agreed. He will get off “Scott Free” (his spelling, not mine) despite all the “Smocking Guns” (again, his spelling).

What a world we live in where if you steal Billions you are teflon.

Even if he is charged, Pence will likely pardon him, hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pelosi pardoned him.

Mueller has to be an unbackable favorite for Time’s POTY Cover.

Even if a Democrat won the presidency in 2020, he/she would pardon Trump. You just can’t have a president go to gaol.

The moral test for voters will be do they reward a bloke who not only cheated on his wife twice (that we know of) but paid them to shut up about it?

Now normally, these issues I feel should be between him and his wife only however, he did campaign on him being a good family sort who lived his life in accordance with solid Christian beliefs so he deserves to be publicly scrutinised for his hypocrisy on both fronts.

Even though he has broken Commandment # whatever it is, you know, the one where is says you shouldn’t ■■■■ people other than your wife, I suspect the good, mainly white people of the conservative right will find a way to minimise what should be a deal-breaker for these bible bashing types into something minor or even something that Jesus himself would do. Just you watch.

There is no way a Democrat with be pardoning Trump. He’s criminal to the core… if he gets charged it will mean some republicans have grown some balls - so no way Democrat’s let him slide.

That said, I think you make a valid point about the US not wanting to see their President go to jail.

Sadly I think the various institutions will do a deal with trump. Don’t run again, delete Twitter. Go to Mar a Lago and be quiet until you die - in return for no criminal charges. It’s the easy way out and sadly they’ll take it.

If the US pursued white collar crime to any decent level they wouldn’t be in this pickle. Trump committed financial fraud with his casinos and should have been jailed in the 90’s.

Off topic, but if Cops did white collar crime I’d watch the hell out of it.

I have heard that happened before and nothing eventually came of it.

As I see it a POTUS cannot go to jail on a technicality. Even if found guilty of misuse of campaign funds he wont go to jail or he will be impeached before this even becomes a possibility. If, however, Mueller was conclusively prove that he did indeed conspire with a foreign power to rig the election, he most likely will go to jail.

It’s a big if, though. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs.

It’s not a technicality. Cohen is going to jail for it and trump would be except the DOJ has a view that a President can’t be indicted.

If trump was anyone other than president right now he would be indicted for the same charges. He no doubt wouldn’t plead guilty so it would go to trial.

Trumps revels in hatred from his opposition. They feed into his hands.

Really it will be when he can’t deliver on the economy is when he will get booted.

Otherwise everything else can literally be painted as fake news. (and really perhaps in the age of social media/#metoo etc it’s what’s most effective.).

The one thing you can trust is that the economy goes bad and you and your friends lose their jobs, or your house is worth nothing etc etc. That slices through the bullshit.

It’s the sliding house prices and lack of wage growth which is killing the liberals here I reckon. Not any of the other noise. (will become definite if unemployment rises)

You’re referring to W Clinton? True, but progressive voters aren’t as hung up about fooling around as conservative voters are and progressives generally don’t make piousness part of their campaign strategy.

I know hypocrisy and Christianity go hand in glove but even the staunchest of happy-clappers must draw the line somewhere and couldn’t possibly support a bloke as morally bankrupt as this fellow is.

And to be clear, to be morally bankrupt is to be human however, if you portray yourself as the type who conducts themselves in a way that is consistent with the teachings of the good book to solicit votes, you had better be on solid moral ground otherwise the most judgemental crowd of them all will get all judgey on your backside. Or at least they should…

Trump has cheated on his wife twice - Reckon it’s well over a hundred and counting.

Yeah because business deals with Russia are sooooooooooooooo illegal.

Get a grip.

Few things

  • Butina not accused of being a spy;
  • Butina not accused of working with RU intelligence
  • Prosecutors withdrew their most serious claim
  • I believe charge was to act as a foreign agent without prior notification to the AG
