Sure some leaders will use firm language and threaten heavier sanctions. Ultimately though Russia is far to strong for any real damage. Plus if they go to hard on Putin he might just actually take over Ukraine
The sanctions will begin to hurt the Russian economy. The new sanctions are aimed at some of Russia's must powerful company's, including oil and gas producers and state-owned defense firms. This will put pressure on the leadership of Putin. But Putin has shown time and time again that he does not take these types of measures all that seriously.
The biggest issue is the flow of arms across the Russian border which has not stopped.
Doesn't most of the Ukraine's gas come from Russia? they can just turn off the taps if they are pushed.

So basically the best possible scenario is for the Ukrainians to allow the bodies of the victims to be returned home, nothing more to see here.

Sounds like a misreport.
Twelve hours ago, the bodies were being taken away and stored nearby. Around 100 were there. What is happening is the soldiers securing the change often and the way they interact with people at the crash site and even who they give access to information and the site differs depending on who is securing the site.
I'm not buying into the 'war is coming' scenarios, but it is a bit freaky that it's only just ticked over 100 years (June 28) since Gavrilo Princip shot The Archduke.
