Bit early to call the Caddy draft move a mastertsroke. The player Geelong took after Caddy (O’Sullivan) just towelled him up, and the extra player Geelong got (Mannagh) with the second rounder we gave up looks in All Australian contention. That’s assuming Geelong was going to take Caddy and not O’Sullivan anyway, and that we didn’t just gift them a second rounder.

Both Caddy and O’Sullivan look like they are going to be stars and both would go top3 if you did the draft again imo.
I think we needed key forwards more than key backs so im ok with it.

Just one less win in '23 and we would have been 4 spots lower in the draft order, and none of that would have mattered.

No it shouldn’t. One game?! Sullivan in a great defensive system, Caddy in a glorified pea soup setup. Recency bias is a thing, it distorts reality.

Caddy spilled too many markable chances to blame the whole thing on delivery.
It’s a part of it, sure, but it’s not the whole story.
Nor is it the first time he’s dropped easy chances.

And yet I have a Geelong fan who was annoyed they didn’t take the key forward. I don’t think it was as clear cut as you say, given even now I don’t think having Caddy as a replacement for Cameron instead of O’Sullivan would be a major issue.

Last year’s drafting did feel like a big shift. It’s volume signalled a submission to rebuilding which it feels Dodoro never committed to.
Also we got deals done early and traded into the future, which again feels different to the Disco strategy.
Lastly, the players we picked up have good skills (not as familiar with Unwind yet)
It’s too early to tell if all of this will change anything, but I think there’s valid reasons for fans to feel positive about the Rosa era.

20 years of no recruitment strategy and no finals. Solid sample size that Dodoro couldn’t do the job.
Of course we hope Rosa is better. He can’t be worse.

Frustrating thing is, we need to go to the draft and find two quality players with our first rounders this year. Problem is, it’s reportedly an ordinary draft crop and it’s compromised.
