Team name, shield and logo. The Nets are hardly pioneers there. There is very little in common between those two examples.
It’s not their logo though, it’s their monogram.
Their logo is/was a demon, supposedly they lost it to try and crack into the Chinese market. They even did a practice match tour in China.
They presumably must have at least half a billion members now - marketing guys wouldn’t suggest you lose half a century of history for illusory gains?

It's where several people have had an idea that 'had' to be in the logo, and the designer just gave in and did all of them. From the Top. The Red Yoke, The MFC monogram, the rules of the game, the trident, the footy, the establishment date, the eternal flame and the Southern Cross. .
