I was a VFL member at Waverley from day 1 way back in the 1970’s and it is hard to just drop it. Back then the VFL was seen to be run by clubs and the " people" though reality is probably different. Anyway Waverley was built to get the monopoly off MCC and it was a good socialist action so I jumped on board.
It was reasonably cheap and gave me access for free to every game at Waverley and the G, and all finals and the GF for no more money. Mrs Fox and I went to every GF from 1978 until the past few years when it is now nearly impossible even for full members to get seats. We are both Gold AFL members with Bomber Club support and High Mark Essendon Members. It is a shiteload of money and I review it every year and I swear and moan, but pay it all. Next year we will try to get reserved seats for all Bomber home and away, and then again consider dropping AFL membership, but after 40 years it is a big decision.
I get your angst against the AFL, but we are not traitors.
I don’t really get the angst of missing out when your team isn’t even playing. I’d rather Pies and Eagles supporters get the privilege. Unless of course you were just going to scalp them like my work mates were going to who also missed out. In that case I get your angst. I just don’t have any sympathy.
How about because you shell out countless dollars each year for the supposed privilege to get to go to the GF should you choose…
I joined AFL members for that one reason 11 years ago and did my time to become a gold member. The AFL have however in recent years just let the floodgates open on members. You’re entitled to your opinion but it’s a fair point
The Hawks have membership year recognition on their scarfs & I must say it’s just laughable how many middle aged men have been members for all of 3 or 4 years
I support the membership team trying to think of ways to improve the members experience.
I LOOOVE the acknowledgement of members who have been long-term continuous members. Great strategy.
I don’t mind the patch, but it does have limitations. With the pin you could just pin it to whatever new thing you wanted to wear. The patch will kinda be stuck with whatever you first put it on.
