Mercuri Misiti etc

When I think of that team and that era, this game was the perfect example of why we were so good. Relentless pressure, pure skill, smelled the blood and went for the jugular. Complete domination and humiliation of the reigning premier. This was a North team that sill had Simpson, King, Archer, McKernan, Carey and Stevens at the height of their powers. It was a Qualifying Final ffs and we beat them by 20 goals.

Also our players were mouthy c*#ts.

The amount of times the opposition would miss a shot at goal, and Mark Johnson would run over to them…. Get in their face, and let them know about it.

Even after the opposition kicked a goal. The amount of scuffles in the goals square, between Johnson, Solomon and the oppositions forwards.

How good was Caras kick to Lloyd on the lead.

Thats how you deliver the ball not the crap we play by bombing high and long and hoping for a clunk or crumb goal

A lot.
Would change with Caracella. And others.

How i miss it.

Would love Brad to cut some clips togther and show the current group that Essendon were a tough and feared team during that era.

We lost our identity show them why were we succesful and respected in the comp

Not that early in his career but I seem to remember Sheedy giving him CBA later on to mix it up but ultimately he was a backman. Still remember going to a North game in 2000 and a young Solomon roughing up Archer…

What did we give Adelaide to get him?

Man what a steal

Played tall.
Or was disastrously expected to play tall.
One of those.

Misiti was grossly underrated imo. He was an exceptional footballer. If he’d got himself a smidge fitter he would have been an all time great

Its technically seen as part of a 3 player mega trade where Adeliade got Jarman, Fish to Hawks and Wellman/Barnard to Ess - not sure it was all direct like that, all wins

Ive always rated players higher if they can perform in big finals.

I hold Misiti in extremely high regard. He was a gun.

A lot of people talk about the likes of Jobe Watson, Zac Merrett, etc as being legends of the club.

Misiti was on a different level. He performed on the biggest stage of all. That’s how I rate players.

We lost Salmon but in return got Barnard and Wellman then picked up Barnes as a replacement.

Talk about winning

Salmon wasn’t a Ruckman.

If anything we replaced Salmon & Cummings with Lloyd & Lucas.

I thought he played a few times in the ruck

Summerville and Alessio were our Ruckman

Ahhh good old Summerville

To absolutely destroy the reigning premier at the time with just under 200 points is absolutely incredible, you would never see that happen today. Shows you just how amazing that side was, no team in history wouldve been able to stop us or even get near us, apart from possibly the 2008 Cats
