Mid Season Draft 2025

We are desprate tho both our rucks are gone for the year

Id love to see where anyone mentioned anything about being desperate for him.

Would stand to reason we’d take a ruck on a 6 month deal, he’s one of the better ones going round.

(Edit) Why you do me like this Nino

Yeah fair enough desperate was a bit of a stretch, probs prefer Keogh if access but yea lets see

Well Crossly never carried the ruck duties for Gold Coast. AFAIK that was always Jarrod Witts.

But he looks to at least be of a strong build and is a mature ager.

We need someone that can at least be competitive in the ruck and around the ground.

Hopefully our number 1 mid season target is a lockdown defender with good kicking skills. Are they that hard to find?

Swans did ok with Riley Bice. We had him on our board too.

Did ok? They absolutely nailed it, he’s a gun.

Is it though?

Both long term rucks out for the year with serious injuries. Both currently out of contract. Currently no idea if Bryan will re-sign, Draper looked likely to re-sign but also no guarantee.

Next is a 36 year old (37 in July) Goldstein on his last legs. Even if he were to play on next year I would be furious if he was our number one going into next season.

Lastly is Young Vigo, 19 years old and looking good in the two VFL games he has played as main ruck.

I think we need a middle ground like Crossley or Keogh to at least cover for the recovery of Draper and Bryan and likely retirement of Goldstein.

Worst case scenario is we walk into the draft/trade period with Draper and Bryan on the way out and Goldstein retired. And as excited I am about Vigo he can’t ruck AFL solo yet.

We might announce a contract signing for one of Bryan / Draper before the mid season draft.

That would be great. But until then it wont alleviate my concerns.

Also, even if Draper and Bryan resign, no guarantee they come back as good as before. I know medicine is better than it used to be, but plenty of people don’t come back the same from an Achilles or ACL.

This gives us 6 months to sus our a potential replacement if required at no disadvantage if they suck.

with that player description its a shame we missed out on him

Draper has already had an ACL and he came back just fine.

And I hope Bryan can do the same. But as an insurance policy I can’t see how a MSD pick on a mature ruck hurts in anyway.

Medicine has progressed a bit since John Colemans knee.

Lets not mention Jaiden Hunter or Jayden Davey.
Hunter is playing some good WAFL footy now.

Why wouldn’t we use all 3?

A system where a father son is part of an NGA academy shows that the system is rooted

And adding a potential #1 pick to a teams academy half way through the year again shows that the system is not fit for its intended purpose.

He’s not father son though. He’s father played for port and kangas, but is not eligible for either team. I liked Cal’s suggestion the other day, where you’ll pay more or less depending on how long the player has been in your NGA.

The father son was Andrew Walkers kid in the Richmond NGA. Getting all those kids who otherwise would have fallen through the cracks …

That would be kind of funny if he choose the tigers.

Fark Carlton.
