Mid Season Draft 2025

There are better options than Hoare if we want a ready made defender, and I like the idea of pilfering other teams

we don’t need another tall defender. we have Lav or alternatively we can go with only 2 talls in defence.

I will assume they won’t be using the MSD to simply plug holes for 2025. We aren’t winning finals. I think we need to keep perspective of the journey and not get distracted by a gutsy win, as good as it was.

The recruiters will be hard at work hopefully unearthing multiple 200 gamers. I’d be taking the most talented and hoping that happens to be a ruck, a key forward and maybe a key back.

Yeah nah, the guy was a complete ■■■■ wit that stuffed the club for 20 years.

Exactly, we won’t win a final this year so hopefully they plan for the future. That hasn’t been very Essendon like though. We usually over rate the list and trade and draft thinking we are close. We are not. At least Dodo is gone

We need to use every possible leaver available to us to build a successful list. I’d now argue with strong resourcing of our recruiting dept which we haven’t had until now, successful clubs wouldn’t view the MSD as a top up / hole plugging opportunity. Like summer rookie drafts, it’s a lever to add elite talent to build a list. Day-Wicks & Martin are summer rookies!

D’Ambrosia, Saad, Durham, Newcombe… These are near A grade elite talents.

If we’re scouring the state leagues with additional recruiters, use them and find 2-3 elite prospects. Don’t just find a big thug / brut who you can drop into a lineup to fill a need for 10 games to finish 10th!

We should draft for comedy. I’m sick of drafting for tragedy.

The rucks, KPF and KPDs will all play 2-3 good VFL games to get us interested, 3 decent AFL quarters that has the gifs flowing and then suffer horrific injuries and you will have to like it.

Geelong VFL coach Mark Corrigan says the stars are aligning for delisted Magpie Nathan Kreuger ahead of this month’s mid-season draft as he feels fellow mature-age hopeful Charlie McCartin is only scratching the surface of his potential.

Kreuger was cut from Collingwood after an injury-ravaged three-year stint at the club, but has starred at both ends for Geelong VFL this season and relished continuity that alluded him at AFL level.

The 26-year-old told this masthead last month that his body is feeling as good as it ever has, shaving 50 seconds off his 2km time trial time after completing a training regime with his fiancee, middle-distance runner Tess Kirsop-Cole during the pre-season.

Kreuger earnt a spot in the VFL side that defeated the SANFL at Gather Round after he reeled in 14 intercept marks and 26 intercept possessions in two and a half games.

The 196 centimetre swingman has since been shifted forward where he has finished with hauls of 3.2 and 2.4 against Box Hill and Carlton in his past two games.

Corrigan also put forward Kobe George, Marcus Herbert and Tobyn Murray as other Cats VFL players that AFL clubs should consider, saying McCartin is ready physically but is still learning the ropes of VFL footy.

Knocking 50 sec off of your 2km time is pretty significant. If Krueger is the fittest he has ever been, he should get another opportunity at the top.

There’s no redemption for that fraud.

I agree, it makes me wonder why he was dawdling around the first time

Definitely both for me. We’ll probably be almost the only team picking more than 1, so we can go talent, talent (if any), backup need 1, backup need 2.

Some here are saying not to use it for holes and focus on the future, but having a structure does help with development.

Moved to the right MSD thread.

I’d have no issues taking Foley.

Is there any reason why you wouldn’t fill every available spot in the MSD? I can’t think of any. At worst, they just get delisted at the end of the year (and whilst hard on the player, at least they get a 6 month taste of a professional (debatable) environment, at best, you find a Durham.

Salary cap space?

I hate the MSD but if you do draft someone they need to be playing immediately and not just used as a draft loophole
