I am not sure we will pickup four players. My preference (counts for nothing) is developing tall forward first and then serviceable ruckman and key defender.
Having 4 picks excited me but knowing pick 6 is our first pick, and our other picks are 13 and beyond is crazy.
You have to wonder if we might have a player or two in mind from WA to bring into AFL system.
Have them be performing at VFL level or even get AFL games later in year with hope they show something to then potentially include in a certain trade back to WA
We really should’ve cut ties with Forster-knight when Dodo left. Hopefully Rosa has the final say on who we pick up.
Essendon will take four players in Wednesday’s mid-season draft, with the recent spate of injuries forcing a pivot from the club’s normal philosophy regarding selecting players mid-year.
While the Bombers like tall lockdown defender Oscar Adams, they are likely to prioritise others such as Glenelg 18-year-old Harry Ramm, the athletic 202-centimetre key-position player and ruck, with their early picks, and don’t expect Adams to still be there for them. Gold Coast have also been interested in Adams.
Former Melbourne and GWS key-position player Adam Tomlinson was a withdrawal from North’s VFL side at the weekend, prompting clubs to speculate that clubs were keen on him. While Essendon have interest in him, it appears unlikely at this stage they will go for him. The 199-centimetre Werribee defender Ryan Eyers is also on the Dons’ shortlist.
Is that article’s heading the most obvious club based clickbait in a while?
Generally the best player for that role is Hipwood himself, but I’m sure he’s thinking “I’m a good chance for a bag here”
Is there any reason why they could do this thing at, say, 2:30pm?
Because they get more engagement outside work hours?
It’s about TV ratings and digital engagement. Both are much higher when people are at home relaxing in their lounge areas . The ratings and numbers will be off the charts as they are fall all drafts.
Please hope the stars and moon align and we pickup a great key position player and fark up another teams shot and picking him up …
Off the charts? Really?
There will be advertising attached to it and I’m sure they would prefer that it’s shown in peak times.
I mean, it’s the whole reason the afl exists (along with gambling)
For sure, but I don’t believe it’s some enormous thing. Is it bigger in the evening? Probably, I guess. But I figure it’s a difference between small numbers.
No I don’t think it’s enormous at all.
But, as always, money will win the argument. Particularly when advertising spend is attached.
It’s why the draft is spread over two nights, why trade segments on afl.com have large sponsorships etc.
Maybe another reason is many of the nominated players work during the day…
Happy Mid-Season Draft day everyone!
