Alternatively you could look at compressed hours, and have a day a week where you focus on your new career with the intent to slowly phase out of your current role Into your new life whilst maintaining financial control. Most organisations offer that option. Any chance of a package?
Karma has a way of working out. I knew nothing about the salary packaging that happens when you work for a charity. Turns out I wont be losing income at all.
Accepted the job on Tuesday and quit my current role. Now to serve out my time. Today the lack of motivation has really hit. Not going to be a productive month.
Do you mind if I ask who the lucky charity is?
Brotherhood of St Laurence but it is essentially working on the NDIS
Oh, that is awesome.
Ah yes, I actually couldāve told you this muchā¦
Be prepared for the weekly call from them asking you to buy/lease a car through them!
lol. Just going to pump it through the home loan
You think thatāll stop them? Sweet, naive, innocent child!
Every time they call me I tell them I have a company car (have had for 2.5 years), still get monthly calls and weekly emails!!
Having turned 35 last week I probably fit into the āmid-life crisisā category! Iāve been struggling in terms of work. Not that my job is under threat or whatever, Iām very good at what I do (Senior Analyst/Programmer at Fuji Xerox Document Management Solutions), Iām valued and get paid pretty well. Iāve been at the company 9 years come this June, when I joined it was a stand-alone print/mail facility in Perth that eventually got purchased by Fuji Xerox. After 4 and a half years in the west I returned home and got transferred to one of our Melbourne offices. But at the moment Iām not challenged by what I do, very much in a comfort zone and I donāt see too much opportunity for growth internally, so it feels like Iāve reached a dead end. My skills are very niche and specialised in the Variable Document Composition industry. Once youāre in it can be very hard to get out.
Luckily enough I had a job interview last night at a Data Analytics company for a Business Intelligence Consultancy role. Had a phone interview last week and a face-to-face last night. It went a lot better and a lot longer (1 and a half hours!) than Iād expected. Because of my work with data and having dipped my toes into the analysis side of things, I think thereās a lot of transferable skills I possess. We started to talk salary as well which I didnāt expect until further down the process. Minimum Iāll be looking at about a 10-15% hit on what I earn right now, but they provide full training and accreditation so if I fast track that there is scope to earn significantly more. Anyway fingers crossed. Iām ready to move into the next challenge in my career. BTW if anyone has any leads or opportunities in terms of data analyst sort of work, drop us a PM!
What is a data analyst ? I thought that was Jack Ryan with the CIAās job.
Grabbed straight from Google, āBusiness intelligence analysts gather data through a number of ways, from mining a companyās computer data through software, looking at competitor data and industry trends to help develop a picture of where the company stands in the industry, where they can improve and where they can reduce costs.ā In a roundabout way thatās what Iām looking to move into. Iāve done a few projects on the side for some large-scale organisations in that field, and itās something Iām really keen to get into.
Working for ASIO or CIA sounds better to me.
I heard youāre a p-hacker. Thatās what all the cool kids are doing these days.
Seems the concession is not limited to charities, but covers all not-for- profit corporations, like the AFL and clubs. So, Gil gets tax concessions not available to others working in commercial bodies.
An acquaintance actually was advertising for a one of them the other dayā¦
Itās a tax saving of about $6k? I think. Useful if youāre a mere mortal on sub-80k
Doubt it makes all that much difference once youāre into $500k+
A mate of mine is one of the founding partners of a company that sold 50% to Qantas Frequent Flyer for data analytic purposes.
One of the Ants works for a company that does a bit of this, I believe.
Most of the actuarial firms do a lot of this now, now their cash cow of defined benefit super has largely dried up.
No. Not all not for profits at all.
Quite hard to get and you have to have a āpurposeā that meets the requirements of charity.
Everyone else, look up ikigai, itās a sweet concept from Japan to help you to navigate your career
