Ummmm… “Essendon women’s football development co-ordinator” and “indigenous engagement officer at Deakin University”???

You need to update your LinkedIn, Courtney

Hmmm. I don’t think this is official… but convenient! All 2023 VFLW games on Youtube (and a stack of other developmental and state leagues – VFLM is a notable omission).

Hailing from Mildura, Jacara [Egan] is a proud Muthi Muthi/Gunditjmara athlete and coach who is currently coaching women at the AFL and VFLW level. She is also a mental health social worker, working as National Manager of First Nations Healing and Wellbeing with Headspace.

Jacara aims to create culturally safe environments to increase First Nations women’s participation in sport as athletes and coaches. She also wants non-Aboriginal people to gain access and grow from Aboriginal knowledge and ways of being.

So, two more finals today:

  1. now, Pies vs Port – we will play one of these teams next week, at their ground. I am satisfied we can beat either of them (whether we will is a different question).
  2. later, Willy vs Fark Carlton – if Willy win, we need to win two more finals just to reach the Grand Final. If FCFC somehow manage to win, we get a double chance and will play for a spot in the Grand Final next week.

It takes 8 minutes, but finally someone scores: van der Vlies goals for the Pies.

Frew getting savaged by the commentators. There’s some truth there (she is in much worse condition than she was with us), but Port have had just three inside fifties in 16 minutes (and at least the last one was by herself).

She gets criticised for not leaving full-forward, and then criticised for kicking 50 metres to an empty and undefended goal face

Pies lead 14-0 at quarter time. If anything that was into some wind.

It’s urinating down at the start of the second quarter.

“Jess Bates arguably the favourite for the Lambert-Pearce Medal”… yeah nah mate; on output, there is zero argument.

Multiple players run over a dribble kick from the pocket by Beth Wilson: Port exist!

21-6 to the Pies, halfway through the second quarter.

DeMatteeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooo!!!

Gets out of trouble, slots it from 35.

28-6

We broke Port.

Wow.

Ump pays a free against Port for running it though under pressure.

Their only option was to dump kick it to the boundary line… which would have been pinged, but at least not on the goal line.

Makes it 34-6 at halftime.

This is a destroyation.

18.11.2 Free Kicks - Deliberate Rushed Behinds
A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player from the Defending Team who intentionally Kicks, Handballs or forces the football over the Attacking Team’s Goal Line or Behind Line or onto one of the Attacking Team’s Goal Posts, and the Player:

(a) is greater than nine metres from the Goal Line or Behind Line;
(b) is not under immediate physical pressure;
(c) has had time and space to dispose of the football; or
(d) from a Ruck contest, hits the football over the Goal Line or Behind Line on the full.

The ump would have been relying on (c). Had zero plausible targets, was looking for them, and eventually got in a position where it was impossible to escape.

Wow.

That ump call was even worse.

Fede out of position, so just falls on/strikes the Pie. Gets called a trip or taking the legs.

34-12

Hmmm. Not over yet.

34-19

Alice Campbell does “the impossible”.

Oh no!

Slater did the Timmy Watson hurdle of the opposition, gave it off to Frew… who hit the post!

34-20

Pies 5.4.34 lead Port 3.3.21 at the final break

Bates has 20 disposals, 8 marks, 13 tackles, and has scored 1.2
