Airservices have had to limit flights to 4 minute gaps since early this morning and that has still no eased the situation so cancelling all takeoffs between 1530 and 1600

At least it’s not the ceilings of the building coming down on the controllers as it was on Tuesday.

They survived

Got caught in the tube strike on Wednesday. Rush hour as well. Absolute nightmare.

Earlier this week, and Air Corsica flight from Paris to Ajaccio spent 20 minutes holding before landing because the air traffic controller in the tower had fallen asleep. According to local media reports, the flight crew was able to contact other controllers who alerted the airport. Fire crews were able to access the tower and wake the sleeping controller.

@Aceman any idea what was wrong with the Qantas 380 that was headed for JoBurg and had to turn around after 4 hours? Would have been a nervy 4 hour flight!

“A Qantas spokesman told News Wire the “fault was with the satellite communications”, which is required for travelling over large bodies of water”

Any idea why the flew back to Sydney? Was that really the closest?

No, MEL is closest but not life threatening or in any danger so best to get passengers back to their port of departure plus maintenance facilities

Jetstar plane seen heading to Sydney runway with cargo door wide open

An investigation has been launched after a Jetstar plane headed towards the runway at Sydney Airport with the cargo door wide open.

Grainy footage of the incident on Tuesday morning has been circulating online.

Flight JQ456 was heading for Ballina before the pilots saw the warning light and returned to the gate.

In a statement to Stuff, Jetstar confirmed the incident: “A rear cargo door was left open after the door was unlocked to add a piece of oversized luggage to the hold at Sydney Airport on Tuesday morning.

“After the aircraft pushed back for departure, our pilots received a notification that the cargo door was open and returned to the bay. There was no safety risk at any stage; multiple system safeguards ensure an aircraft cannot take off with a cargo door open.
