Missing/crashed planes, and other aviation mis/adventures

Reports of plane crash in Port Phillip bay

It was a SIAI Marchetti S.211 Jet

Unconfirmed mid-air with another S.221; the other aircraft returned to Essendon.

Not good, jet joyflight business, flying together with i assume passenger each. According to news, locals stated they often sighted in area in close proximity. Ide suggest inquest wont be flattering.

2 POB for both aircraft.

Thats incredible to hear that so close to incident. I know pilots trained to keep calm but considering likely outcome, kinda hard to listen to

Wow. That’s next level calmness. I know he’s putting on a good face for his passenger, but that’s extremely difficult to hold together when you’ve seen a friend likely die. I’ve heard emergency services radio traffic when hectic real event happen and normally you can hear the stress in the voice.

VH-DZJ is the accident aircraft.
VH-DQJ is the other aircraft (as per ATC comms above).

I was out on the bay around mount Martha today, but didn’t hear or see a thing. Still an eery feeling being out there when you know two people have just gone under.

The two Vipers were filming a new television show “Any Fool Can Fly”.
There was a helicopter that was part of the filming.

Not trying to make light of this situation, but I would suggest that the basic premise of that program has been undermined by this incident. Unless the subtitle is “But it takes skill to make it back down safely.”

It’s got a bit of a “whatever it takes” Essendon vibe. Great idea initially, horrible in hindsight.

Tempting fate a little too much IMO.

Don’t think that they were teaching anyone in this flight. The person in the back of the plane that landed safely is a Qantas Captain and I think formally with the RAAF and the Roulettes (can’t be too many Joanne Mein’s who are pilots).
