Music You've Been Listening To

Way way ahead of the trend, these guys. And whilst Smooth Operator is the well known anthem , this is the better, smoother, catchier song.

I saw Sade live in the mid 80s

Not just an excellent singer/performer…she was incredibly hot as well…and I had a front row seat!!!

Peking Duk Ft. AlunaGeorge ā€˜Fake Magic’ (Splendour In The Grass 2017)

Peking Duk - Reprisal

Peking Duk, Jack River - Sugar

Kinda reminds me of that 90s seether song.

Go Essendon!

Nah, gotta be the Mission Of Burma original all the way.

Being from Seattle, these guys somehow got lumped in the grunge basket. They weren’t at all… they were power-pop all the way! Way closer to Redd Kross or Cheap Trick than Nirvana.

They came to a messy end, and it’s now a little difficult to overlook Ken Stringfellow’s (alleged) transgressions, but damn… they wrote some fine pop-rock songs, and man… those killer harmonies…

I’ve listened to very little music over the past decade…so that makes me cautious about posting something that may already be well known.

But I had my first encounter with ā€œGrandmaā€ a couple of hours ago, thanks to YouTube, and I’m enjoying their songs…some of which have a lowly number of views:

Such a shame he never got to finish this album. Theres a lot of deep dives on what track lists woukd have become either First Rays of the New Rising Sun or Strate Ahead and other variations. But its all guess work.

Jimi had some incredible stuff in the can when he died but it was all a mess and left up to others to endlessly interpret what might have been. A single record? A double? A triple? The soundtrack he owed for Rainbow Bridge? Who knows.

The last release from Experience Hendrix being the box set called Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision is worth a look at where it was all heading. Some amazing stuff in there to dig into.

What might’ve been…

Some great stuff there, it gives a few hints at his next direction.
It’s a shame we will never know, or perhaps that’s how things were meant to be.

We’re just very lucky he was a prolific recorder and we have what we have from his four year career (plus live bootlegs).

Still frustrating though. I just wish he’d made it to like maybe 1974…that woulda be really nice.

Ah well. Something about the brightest flame burns quickest…

They sound like they’re having so much fun, all the little change ups from verse to verse.
