Music You've Been Listening To

No, they don’t appear to be. I’m living in Japan, and it’ll be their first time playing here. Pure luck!

Haha well that makes sense! Have an awesome time

We had done that already but it doesn’t stop a lot of stuff that 9 year-olds shouldn’t be watching. I had it in my head that you needed an Apple device to access Apple Music but apparently you don’t, so we will probably go with that.

Pulled out Fever To Tell for a spin. Two of the best songs of 2003 side-by-side in the middle of Side 2.

Weird connection but Kelly Clarksons since you’ve been gone takes a lot from the maps song. Guitar riff is or nearly identical.

Interesting. Just reading the wiki now. Don’t know the song that well, I’ll give it a listen later.

Mention of Painters and Dockers on another thread. Used to see them at various venues in the 80s. This was a fave.

I’m at a less travelled part of Bali but in the past week I’ve heard Bob Marley about 600 times, various reggae lite versions of all kinds of crap and the usual garbage solo acoustic bollocks. In fact when one bloke set up in a bar 6 of us left and went 2 doors down. I did also see a local traditional blues guy who was good but still nothing original.

Tonight a local family have redeemed themselves cranking very loud local rock act XXX Bali. Finally something new.

Here’s them doing a traditional meets modern performance. Sort of like when Western record labels thought it was cool to waste millions of the bands money on hiring orchestras and concert halls

How many times have you heard Red Red Wine?

Strangely not once but a few years ago I did a four hour trip with a driver who had UB40s greatest hits on constant rotation. I can’t remember any of the other songs but I never want to hear Red Red Wine again.

I’ve just taken a delivery of a box of cassette recordings of a band I used to do sound for in the early 90’s. The one band member I’m still in touch with found them while he was moving house.

I knew there had to be recordings of their original stuff somewhere, but until now I’ve only had 8-track multis of a handful of covers we recorded on a Portastudio for fun (ironically the recordings that got them more gigs than anything else…)

I’ve absolutely no idea what is on these things, but it appears to be a mixture of studio recordings and live board mixes. No idea what condition they’re in either… probably not great.

With modern DAW’s and stem splitters, this could be fun. We’ll see… There’s certainly going to be memories involved.

Posted a few teasers earlier from Brad Mehldau’s tribute to the late Elliot Smith(about whom I knew nothing except that Mehldau had worked with him in the 90s), “Ride Into The Sun”, and the full album has now been released. Basically been listening to it non stop of late. Reckon it’s magnificent. I gather this song is the source of the album’s title and features Chris Thile, one of Mehldau’s regular collaborators, on mandolin and vocals.

Prog fans getting giddy with excitement (with a German lass deputising for Neil Peart on drums).
@swoodley and Roco booking flights to Canada as we speak…

They’ve never been my bag I’m afraid… not for lack of trying, but I just cannot get past Lee’s vocals… great musos though, obvs…

I’m currently watching a Balinese cover band absolutely shredding 90s stuff. I can’t believe how good they are.
