Why does this song remind me of the Trump administration?
Our ideas held no water, but we used them like a dam.
Oh, and I laughed all the way to hell.

Friday arvo work mood…
“I’m working, but I’m not working for you”
Classic!
The Kickback, a Chicago band who’ve more or less been a sort of indie pop/rock band for most of their career. Except the period where they took quite the U-turn. The singer (their main songwriter) got ditched by his missus in ugly fashion, their 2nd album tanked and their drummer (his brother) had a major stroke resulting in him barely being able to walk and talk (let alone function as a musician).
The singer locked himself away and released a series of heavily electronic singles under the banner of the band. Lots of pitch-shifted vocals & vocoders, synths, icy drum machines… almost hip-hop beats in parts. Definitely unexpected musically (though probably a natural reaction, rebelling against everything going on around him), and not always my cuppa tea, but he never lost his knack for a catchy, hooky chorus.
Really liked this one, and its fusion of morose lyrics and cold electronica… it almost sounds like a cross between Kavinsky’s Nightcall (from the Drive soundtrack) and something off The Editors third album (where they too dabbled majorly in synths).
Rock n Roll Damnation
Down Payment Blues
Sin City…some of their best work ![]()
This album is up there with Let there Be Rock for mine .
Man, I should listen to more Van.
Ha…yet another musical point of difference…
Lists are stupid. Especially music ones. But this was mildly interesting. Coupla surprises in here for me, handful I dont think I’ve heard of (to scared to look up)
50 worst songs of all time: (2 links broken up)
It better have Paper Lace twice, and no Starship.

Look, I know you have to throw in one completely stupid one to get engagement. But that’s a cracker.
I’m not even mad, I’m kind of impressed.
Currently obsessed with Rosalia’s new album Lux. The fourth highest rated album in the history of Metacritic and an absolute shoo-in for AOTY

If you look up one-hit wonder in the dictionary, this is what you’ll find
It’s really not that difficult not to be factually incorrect.
(work out those negatives!)
Those are pretty much all s–t, for sure, but worst ever? I reckon I could come up with 100 I hate more than any of those listed.
I mean, I could come up with plenty of MacCartney songs worse than Ob-La-Di… for starters…
Of those listed, I think Kokomo has been undervalued in terms of awfulness. Not only for being utterly s–t, but for completely trashing The Beach Boys’ brand. Brian had wisely (OK, it was on doctor’s orders) opted out by that point.
sigh
Lazy, stupid #1.
Look, there are some very accurate calls in there, and BDJers will be pleased with one entry.
But yeah-nah.
Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep has to be on any list, but apparently Sounds of Silence is a worse song…
Bit of fun.
Wrong, stupid, but a bit of fun.
I suspect it predates her reign of terror, but any such list which neglects to include Tones and I is woefully incomplete…
How dare you overlook the magnificence# of the AU Top 20, US Top 3, Canadian Number 1 selling Never Surrender?!?!
A huge backhander to the man once tipped to be “one of the mainstay singer/songwriters of the 80’s.” Yeah, nah…
#may not be magnificent
