NBA 2024/25

Gregg Popovich suffered a minor stroke a couple of weeks ago. He is recovering but there is no timeline on his return to coach. Get well Pop!

I just came for the @Aceman melts. Not disappointed.

Jordan Poole 38 for the Wizards as they make a final quarter comeback v SAS. Given the disgraceful way that the whole Draymond Green coward punch incident played out and the way it was treated by the Warriors, happy to see him playing well.

Some real back and forth basketball between the Pistons and Bucks. Giannis has to put up 48 to simply have Milwaukee tied, at home, to Detroit, with 25s left in regulation.

WOW. Pistons had a chance to take the lead with 1 second left from the FT line and missed both. Heading to OT!

He barely hit rim on both.

59 for Giannis. Bucks up 7 in OT. Wind taken out of Detroit’s sails, which is a shame.

Lebron with a triple double.
32 points 11 rebounds 12 assists.
Becomes the oldest player to post a triple double.
They said on the broadcast that he was the last oldest person to record a triple double five years ago, but I’m pretty sure that’s wrong. He’s done it plenty of times since then. Has even had a few 30p + triple double nights.
Maybe he first became the oldest five years ago?

Lakes very lucky against a undermanned Memphis.

LeBron not quite the player he was. Tapered off.

Lakers started well.
Then fell away.
Then finished well.
Memphis fully fit beat us. We just lack depth.

Lebron nowhere near the player he used to be.
Doing well enough for someone turning 40 in a six week’s time though.

Not quite the player he was :joy:

I’ll just leave this here:

The guy had 35/12/14 from 60% shooting for his 3rd triple double and win in a row. Give the man some credit lol.

He’s a freak. Unbelievable numbers.

It’s fair to say he isn’t the player he was.
What he was during his peak was pretty farking spectacular to watch and experience.
And the 2018 Playoff Run was the last part of his peak.

It would be interesting to see if Steph and KD can last another 4 years and see how they fare to their peak.
It’s tough to compare what Lebron is doing to previous generations because very few players laster that long. Jordan did it with a few years breaks in between. And his performance at Washington is understated. Kareem kept going quite some time, but by the age of 40 he was into his second year of averaging below 20 points per game and still played another year at 10 points per game. Robert Parish lasted into his 40s, but he was a bench player and was well below his peak. Karl Malone was 40 in his final year with the Lakers. He was off his peak but he also had Shaq and Kobe next to him. He would have averaged 20 points had he stayed at Utah.

I just think it’s wild that he had a ridiculous game (which most players would kill for in their PEAK) and you are still throwing shade on the performance.

Obviously he is not peak LeBron, but still better than 99% of the NBA and today was just insane.

I’m all for that.

But just remember where you are.
Lakers and Lebron aren’t talked up for their performances here.

In fact…
I’m not sure anyone’s performance is talked up at all.
Certainly not Doncic. Antman was for a little while last year but that was rather ‘low key’.
Jokic is just ignored as he goes about his business quietly.
Embiid sort of was during his MVP year.
Giannis hasn’t been talked up for a while. And even though their failures the last few years have been there, the critique isn’t on him as much (surprisingly).
Curry doesn’t necessarily get talked up, but he’s very rarely critiqued. Maybe because he plays the game like a 1990s NBA Jam game.
