Yeah, Stefanski was screwed by the Deshawn Watson trade. I don’t know how much of a role he played in getting him there, though.

He threw Baker to the wolves by making him throw 40+ times a game with a bum shoulder, so he had some role to play at least.
Still, he made the Browns appear a competent football team (note: team, not franchise) which is no small feat.

Effectively he was the best of the rest available at the time - and they saw Pete as a big culture guy to help them reset. They were big into Ben Johnson & Mike Vrabel but obviously missed out on them. The beat reporters actually went as far as saying the Raiders landed Ben Johnson - who wanted to work with Brady - before he eventually signed at Chicago.
Bizarrely, I think it’s actually a more attractive landing spot this year than it was last year. #1 overall pick (Mendoza), $100M in cap space and some great building blocks in Bowers, Jeanty & Kolton Miller for the next coach to work with.

Maybe get a more reliable QB in to mentor the young uns. Geno just didn’t run with it this season.
And you have Brady up in the stands to help with the coaching of said young gun

Whoever was responsible for that trade should be set on fire, dismembered, fed to wolves, and then the wolf poop should be thrown in a volcano.
Utterly disastrous, and was clearly seen as such at the time.

Maybe they just need a QB without a permanent potential concussion.
Look at the turnaround a decent QB in a good fit system made to Seattle this year.
