It says a lot about our year that (in Jumper number order)

Gleeson, Francis, Raz, Heppell, Hooker, Redman, and McKenna

All have failed to get a Nobby vote this year, not one!

Injury had some influence, but even so.

It says more that a player we hardly knew of, who played just a handful of AFL games last year, is this years Winner, … and he has almost double the Votes of a guy once touted as our next Captain in waiting.

One thing I’ll say about Zach Merrett’s performance here and his chances in the Crichton is that we, as a group, downgrade our star players if the team puts in a particularly sub-par performance.

For instance, I saw that Zach got 7 votes in the Age’s votes last weekend, but i think the journalists only see well-known players. How the club voters see the performance will determine his Crichton chances.

Ridley, on the other hand, puts in a good performance nearly every week, and we rate him up.

Sunday’s B&F will tell.

Blitz votes are very much based on performance vs expectations I think. Hence Stewart’s 4 votes vs PA

There’s also the fact that he had 24 disposals of which 16 were kicks, got 97 fantasy points (second highest after Devon Smith on 100; Ridley got 68), took 4 marks, laid 5 tackles and had 5 clearances.

He’s put in some very big games the last few weeks.

For some reason he’s out of favour on Blitz, but he’s an outstanding player.
