Apparently the illusion is not “optical” as much as due to how the brain handles information.
(Sorry for having to go via the link but can’t figure out how to get it to display properly).

Sometimes I see the purple dots turn to green, sometimes they just disappear.
That is correct. Apparently, the brain stops processing irrelevant information, fading out the pink dots; the moving green dot is not really there but the dot “changes colour” as the information changes (i.e. pink dots turning on/off".

This one’s a ripper! Stare at the red dot for 20 seconds. Then look at a white surface and blink.

Must be similar to some of our training drills. Come game day the players brains stop.
That was rather easy. They should have fiddled with the kerning so the third line wasn’t obviously longer than the rest…
