Our first AFLW squad: finalised, 30 + 3 top-ups

Brisbane Lions have de-listed Jess Wuetschner, who missed most the season while she took a mental health break.

With Richmond de-listing Christina Bernardi and St Kilda de-listing Kate McCarthy, there’s some handy experienced forward pockets out there if we want to sign one (or draft late if no one else takes them).

She’s the one who got struck by lightning, right?

Clearly tough as nails. WSPHU.

And we’re done. No further VFLW upgrades :broken_heart:

Checking now to see if the Maria Moloney (Bears–>Port) and Ally Morphett (GWS–>Bin Chickens) changes ever got confirmed…

Surely we draft ugle?

There’s no way she’s not on the aflw list next year but at this point I’m not surprised

Ally Morphett is not listed in any of the five daily summaries.

LOL @ Bin Chickens?

35 AFLW poachings (if the Ally Morphett fax got through and the AFL website just forgot to mention it) and 26 taken from elsewhere.

We’re not allowed to trade anyone we’ve picked up to date. Not clear whether picks 1-8 can be traded as usual.

Bin Chickens $1.10 favourites to be randomly given picks 1&2.

We’ll get 2 and 7

Astonishingly, Sydney randomly got first pick and we got last pick. Hopefully that means we get back-to-back picks at 4 and 5 so can fill needs.

EDIT: No. Because fark you, that’s why.

Holy ■■■■, we get 4 and 8, Sydney got 1 and 5.

Corruption/governance enquiry already!

You expected anything else than a Sydney bias?

And they’ve last minute added a rule to punish those who poached too well and reward the incompetent, when previously they had only announced that clubs heavily poached would get bonuses.

Fark off.

It seems they forgot that rule, or it was calibrated to provide little or no advantage. Fark Carlton have their first pick at #21

Do they still have that rule where you have to nominate a state prior to the draft?
So isn’t it really only Hawthorn that impacts who we pick and Sydney is basically not relevant unless they convince Vic juniors to nominate for NSW (which they could’ve done anyway)?

Yes.

But that means 3 of 4 clubs can guarantee they get who they want (including, possibly, by enticing someone to travel to their state).

Not us.

Well hopefully we should be gaming the system ourselves and getting in the ear of the best prospect from WA and convincing them to nominate Victoria.
