Thanks to Louise Dyer, she put that bird on the international cultural stage in that series of the great vinyl editions of classic music - L’Oiseau-Lyre
I remember watching this on Tele. The camera shutter was in the actual show, the other stuff is fake I am pretty sure.
Gosh, do you reckon?
Ok sorry! I suppose the fact that some of it is real might be hard to pick - I was just trying to sort which was which. I remember being amazed the camera bit was real…
It’s that time of the year again in the Southwest.
Here’s a humpback having a whale of a time off the coast at Portland.
Photo by Anne McCurdy (who lives across the road from me!).
My parents used to live at the top of the 1000 steps in the Dandenong ranges for a decade or so. They said after there had been works there for a few months, the local Lyrebirds would regularly imitate chainsaws amongst other sounds for a year or two afterward.
You’d think that the imitation of a chain saw would be more of a deterrent to female Lyrebirds.
Any Southern Right whales yet?
First mother and calf sighing was a few days ago near Ceduna. Plenty of activity around Victor the last few days
Well, males very rarely get this right.
Yep, a few have been spotted including one with a calf.
They also used to imitate dogs barking, which I would imagine would be at least as frightening for a lyrebird with any sense.
An international rescue effort has saved two Beluga whales at the Nemo dolphinarium in Kharkiv Ukraine, as the bombs rain down on the city.
Plombir and Miranda were transported by road to Odessa, then to Chișinău in Moldova, then in a specially equipped aircraft to an aquarium in Valence in the east of Spain which has other Belugas ( hope they have a language in common).
Can’t get the scene of The Deep (The Boys) out of my head now…if you know, you know.
currently housesitting for my brother while he’s in Europe. They got four new chooks about a month ago, and of course the chooks needed settling in time etc. Was a bit chuffed to find the first egg when feeding them this morning!
I am not silly, Koalas don’t lay eggs.
Are you a hand model, like George Costanza ?
