Spends a lot of time in rehab
If we donāt trade Peter Wright, itās time to try him in defence. At least his kick outs would be great. If that was able to work, McKay could be tried at FF as a contested mark -assuming we donāt land Mac Andrews from Gold Coast.
Jones too maybe at half back if we are scratching for defenders
Letās just switch backs and forwards, junior footy style.
I think its all to do with himself getting rubbed out early in the year. He hasnt looked the same since.
The bloke got rubbed out for weeks for doing his job. Attacking the ball hard in the air. He was playing good footy before then.
He looks terrified of doing the same thing again. Its likely a subconscious thing really hope he can work through it.
I feel we based our gameplan around 2MP, but it was the wrong gameplan.
He is a taller Langford, he is not a contested mark. our gameplan should be the opposite of what it is. We need to move the ball faster through the middle and then lower our eyes entering 50m.
Peter has proactively put to bed any trade speculation. Sounds like a really decent and respectful way of going about it.

Iām not as off team 2MP as others. I think if we can sort our ball movement and he can get some confidence back, he can still play a role.
But itās 2MP or a second ruck. Canāt be both.
Iām a fan of his but when some people (aptly) put it that heās only really had the one really good season it kinda shakes the confidence I had in him along with recent form
Thatās disappointing
Would love for Peter to use his disappointing season as motivation for next year and get back to his b&f year
Im still hopeful that another club make a play for him, heās a waste of talent on our list.
The best combination going forward and Iām very confident on this is.
Bryan #1 Ruck
Wright FF / 25% ruck
What is different though is that when Wright rucks we are going to have a more than capable focal point in Caddy ensuring our forward structure doesnāt disappear when Wright is in the ruck.
Sadly (or not sadly) this means, bye bye Draper.
Bryans not up to it fitness wise I think, heāll get there but just not yet
āBye bye Draperā? Youāre joking ! The marketing department will have your guts for garters.
Are you serious?
If the marketing dept has any input into list management, this club culture is still rooted.
I think we need to consider moving on Draper.
The thing is in todays game, the pack marking tall forward is all but dead. The idea is to get the ball to ground, so your fleet of small forwards and goal kicking mids can get to work.
If we had good small forwards in 2024, 2MP would have kicked more goals and tapped the long kicks forward out to them or at least got the ball to ground.
As it happened , our medium forwards kicked about 80 goals between them, and that was based on winning 1 on one competitions, which are easier when theres a really tall forward attracting minimum 2 defenders on every long kick in.
If we go the way Hawthorn plays, we only need 1 tall forward who is reserve ruckman, 2 mediums and 3 small forwards.
So its well worth thinking about trading Draper. Especially if Scott is determined to keep Goldy on indefinitely.
Weāll get to the end of 2025 and ask why the hell didnāt we offload him when he still had a little bit of currency, bookmark it.
Draper>Wright every day of the week
Good sides nullify Wright to easily. Cannot see primary role for him - only back up for injury to ruck or key position
How long does it take for fitness (not ruckwork or maturity)? Heās been on the list 4 years.
