2nd best tackle differential in the comp
8th for t50 differential, 13th for contested possessions differential
Iām scared to post what Iām thinking on this thread because @scotty21 is no doubt lurking with his never forget note taking app turned on.
Weed & Pete are going to struggle to play in the same forward line I think. Together with Langford, Stringer, Perkins & Guelfi, the forward line is a bit top-heavy.
We can throw Menzie in, but apart from guelfi we lack manic pressure small forwards.
Bit of work for the forward line coach.
If he replaces the resting ruckman (a pretty much permanent fixture of our forwardline in 2023), it is hard to see how it gets less mobile.
Weāve played a testing ruck there most of the season and itās worked.
I donāt think we can play 2mp and resting ruck though so the second ruck will have to go
Playing NM is basically VFL isnāt it?
yes agreed, 2MP replaces flip/bryan.
but apart from v Ds, when has the resting ruck setup offered much?
I think this tall structure - forced in part by lack of quality small forwards - is a weakness, not a strength.
Langford is going very well. With Stringerās class I think they are holding our forward line together.
Last week we had Snelling, Guelfi, Menzie and Walla in creating pressure in the forward line. If we replace the resting ruck with 2MP, we still have that pressure in there. I think in general, when fit, Snelling is our best pressure forward, and Guelfi is also good. Menzie is reasonably solid in there. I donāt think Walla had a very good game, and I wonder if Davey would have added more pressure there, and might be better right now, especially after having had a rest.
I know you mentioned our taller forwards, but some of those mid size resting forwards also rotate through the midfield. Particularly Stringer, but Snelling, Guelfi, Perkins can also rotate. And some of our smaller mids rotate through the forward line at times, and can add pressure.
We have quite a bit of flexibility with our mids/forwards at the moment, and it allows us to test most sides, and find combinations that work against stronger midfield groups, whilst also leaving our opponents guessing who theyāre supposed to be matching up on in the forward line.
A few years ago, our coaches were talking about this being one of our biggest strengths compared to most teams, but at the time, we didnāt really have the quality and depth to push most teams. Since then, weāve added more depth and quality with mids/forwards, and our young mids have had more experience in the forward line. I think weāre getting to the point where this is becoming a real weapon, and itās why we have so many different goal scorers in most games.
No.
Kicking 0 goals in the VFL might also make it hard to get Voss in the team this week.
It means we stink at somethingā¦

Snelling is one of our smallest smalls, but you have lumped him in with our medium sized forwards.
I think if 2MP goes FF, Weideman would go CHF with Stringer and Langford being the mid sized ones and with Menzie, Perkins and Guelfi rounding out the smaller forwards.
But having said that I donāt think 2MP will play this side of the bye.

i agree. I donāt believe our scoring will improve substantially because we seem to be quite efficient going inside 50 atm
Score will be distributed differently, and likely - a better % of goals/points.
Easy to stay humble when posting on Blitz. Yes, heās small.
The main point was that our forward line wonāt get taller if we swap 2MP in for our second ruck, and we currently have 4 small forwards, who all, at their best, apply pressure. Then we rotate forwards and mids, so we also add others that create pressure if/when needed, to balance the mid and forward mix of height and pressure.

Kicking 0 goals in the VFL might also make it hard to get Voss in the team this week.
Weideman also kicked 0.2 last week and he had better conditions.
Voss may of kicked 0 goals but was still our best AFL listed player on the day. Played a very high CHF took alot of contested marks up on the wing
With Wright back, that spells curtains for Voss this year.
One of the most interesting things will be if our game plan inside 50s changes.
I donāt have stats or anything to back it up, but I think bombing it high and long into the 50 has backed off a bit the last month or so.
Early on we still bombed it in, much to the disdain of the game day thread . With the likes of Langers and Stringer being key targets I feel we have worked hard to lower our eyes and try to hit them one on one.
Weid leads quite well, which helps.
One would hope with the impending return of 2MP we try and get him on the lead dather than bomb it in.
I think Voss is more likely to come in if either Langford and/or Stringer miss
