Pick 34 - Who Do We Take?

I’ll have my final rankings up sometime tonight, Walsh is not even top 3 now but I’ll get this out of the way now, my thoughts on the players haven’t changed it’s my thoughts on the game and what I consider to be the major point in taking a player.

That’s tough, loved Bytel last year which is why I had him top 10 but I didn’t factor his speed and the quality of opposition. His back I think has played a part aswell, it’s really tough but I have Smith just ahead.

Thought he made a great point saying there is always going to be the ‘walsh’ type in a draft year but the ‘rankine’ is pretty rare

it does. coz then we could pick them up on the cheap when FCFC have farked them up. we pick em up on the cheap and fix them

I remember that time we fixed Justin Murphy…

Does anyone have any better examples?

Thanks. Look forward to reading!

The “how the game is played” question is a really tough one, because it’s trying to understand not only the way tactics evolve, but also what sorry of random stuff the AFL will do to try and influence the way the games played, and then how coaches and teams exploit those changes.

For Walsh, he looks smart enough and a good enough runner etc to make a career out of a role no matter what they do, bit with some of the talls or smalls (ie more specialised skill sets) if you get your prediction wrong you can end up with a player that had no role, in spite of their skill set.

Will you be explaining your thoughts about the way you are the game changing in your update tonight (I assume at BF?). I think it’s worthwhile, because it adds context that without has people creating their own assumptions.

Anyway, looking forward to reading your thoughts.

I’ll answer any questions but it’s just a players ranked

Is that only for HS or any pay wall?

It does work across the other NewsCorp sites - some HS articles occasionally won’t load up as it doesn’t have an 100% hit rate but works most of the time.

Yeah i just tried on The Athletic and ESPN Insider but they didnt work…

Very cool feature though… thanks!

What’s the bet, that these will all be available at 34, and we go for someone else?

What’s the knock on smith for him to fall to 34?

Skills and ability to play other positions and hit the scoreboard

If it’s skills I think I’d give him a miss.

If given a choice between Ely Smith or Bytel, I’d go Smith purely because he gives us the intensity and physicality at the coal-face that no other of our young guys provide.

Both of them are a little to one dimensional for my liking though

Even better when they crack the sads that we didn’t take their preferred option.
