Political Correctness

Are their professions where females are paid on average a higher salary than men? I imagine modelling would be one, the pornographic industry another. How do we remove the bias and make it a fairer playing field. Where is the outrage?

Christina Hoff Summers is very interesting to listen to.

My goodness though, she can trigger modern feminists. Iā€™ve seen some extraordinary hate sent in her direction.

Which avoids answering the question.

There is a pay inequality on looks. Beautiful people do better and are trusted more.

Iā€™m sure, but thatā€™s the thing though isnā€™t it?

There are so many different variables which cone into play when measuring pay. To simply measure for gender alone and expect a 50/50 split seems scientifically lacking. And where does it end? Society can be segmented in an infinite number of ways. Do we expect equality to exist across all segments?

Oooh, I know this one.
No.
But we should try to ensure we donā€™t discriminate against people simply due to prejudice.

I had a boss who said he refused to hire good looking woman because they donā€™t work hard enough

So donā€™t focus on that.

Ask yourself is it advantageous to be male in the workforce.

If your answer is yes, then are there simple common sense approaches to even the playing field.

Thatā€™s how simple the debate is.

Anecdotaly Kade Simpson has had a good career at Carlton. However Iā€™d still prefer to be drafted by Hawthorn or Collingwood. Sure Iā€™m on a list either way with supposedly an equal opportunity as any draftee, but you really think leadership, culture and support donā€™t matter?

hed have equal opportunity of being despised at any of them

Itā€™s sorted then, ainā€™t it?
Men are better looking than women, confirmed.

I had a mate who ran a shop who had a hot chicks only policy.

(And one ugly old dude with mild senility who he kept around to take the ā– ā– ā– ā–  out of.)

I think I am slowly realising I have a lot of mates who are ā– ā– ā– ā–  people.

The current Mrs Fox has that policy about me hiring women. If they are good looking then I dont care how hard they work !!

Is that a serious question?

I think in some spheres it does and in some it doesnā€™t, and not all (and perhaps not most) are due to actual discrimination.

Men are more competent in some occupations that women on average and vice versa. Thatā€™s why, in part, you will see certain occupations dominated by a particular gender.

Men are also on the whole better negotiatiors, less agreeable etc.

Itā€™s impossible to account for that without simply offering an award style pay like they do with teaching, and in my opinion that creates for worse outcomes in terms of performance because it puts a weight on tenure as opposed to competence.

I know your talking about negotiating pay here, but to bring in a tangent.

This is where bias comes in. Who says being disagreeable leads to good negotiations, are their studies to prove it, or is it just a long held belief?

Two examples. Republicans disagreeable approach to repealing Obamacare vs Obamaā€™s agreeable approach implementing it. Only one approach has worked so far.

Tony Abbottā€™s disagreeable approach to budget repair, nothing got passed. Vs Gillard who got CPRS, NDIS and Gonski passed in minority government.

Itā€™s allways worthwhile testing assumptions, just becuase itā€™s the status quo and youā€™ve held it your whole life doesnā€™t mean itā€™s correct.

Care to name them?
