Thought Iā€™d revisit my best 22 from March for laughs.

I obviously failed to pick TBCā€™s return to form and the development of McKenna and Stewart. They need to come in for Luey, Stanton andā€¦ Lav. I couldnā€™t quite fit in Myers. although he may have forced his way in by seasonā€™s end.

FB McGrath Hartley, Ambrose
HB Gleeson, Hurley, Kelly
CEN Zaharakis, Watson, McKenna
HF Tipungwuti, Daniher, Stewart
FF Fantasia, Hooker, Green
FOLL TBC, Heppell, Z Merrett

INT: Colyer, Baguley, Goddard, Parish
EME: Myers, Laverde, Langford, Brown

Not sure where that came from! I meant Stewart.

My first effort. Had too much faith in older players (Hocking, Stanton, Leuy), and put a few too many pure midfielders in. If you count Colyer as a HFF/mid, weā€™ve effectively been playing 7 backs, 7 forwards all year which leaves two pure mids on the bench (relatively speaking). I had four midfielders on the bench.

I know this is not post draft, but with so many list changes already pre draft - i thought this would be an exciting time to think about our best 22.

B: Saad - Hartley - Ambrose
HB: Goddard - Hurley - McKenna
C: McGrath - Parish - Zaharakis
HF: Stringer - Daniher - Smith
F: Fantasia - Hooker - Tipungwuti
R: Bellchambers - Heppell - Merrett

INT: Stewart - Langford - Gleeson - Begley/Baguley/Laverde

All of our speed is on the ground, so if you want some balance. Swap Stewart and Smith, and Saad and Gleeson

How should be we interpret Wooshaā€™s recently stated preference to never play Joe D in the ruck?

Big preseason for STEW

If he could get his contested marking mojo going he will be dangerous. That and a little more intent with his tackling.

B: Saad - Ambrose - Baguely
HB: Gleeson - Hurley - McKenna
C: McGrath - Parish - Zaharakis
HF: Stringer - Daniher - Stewart
F: Fantasia - Hooker - Tipungwuti
R: Bellchambers - Heppell - Merrett

INT: Smith - Bonar - Goddard - Sambono

Really donā€™t know unless it is someone else coming in. Really none of our non-rucks other than JD can fill that role.

Now, we could go with two rucks, and move Hooker back. So a forward line of JD, Belly and Stewart with Belly as the clunker/spiller. But one injury to either Belly or Leuy and thatā€™s out the window, and I donā€™t think it would be as effective as our current setup.

Agreed.

Maybe the hold-up with Stringer is that we donā€™t want to take Million Dollar Baby as well.

Ok, so hereā€™s mine:

B: Hurley - Hartley - Baguley
HB: Saad - Ambrose - McKenna
C: McGrath - Zaharakis - Fantasia
HF: Stringer - Daniher - Stewart
F: Green - Hooker - Tipungwuti
R: Bellchambers - Heppell - Merrett

INT: Parish (M) - Smith (M/HF) - Goddard (M/HB) - Gleeson (HB)
EMER: Myers (M) - Begley (HF) - Langford (C/HF) - Laverde (C/HF) [Francis (HB)?]

Fantasia to be released to the midfield. Parish and Smith also rotating through midfield, with guest appearances from Walla and Stringer (for x-factor) and Goddard (if a bigger body is required).

Hopefully some of the emergencies could force their way into the side with improved form (Myers) or ongoing development (the rest), probably at the expense of Green, Gleeson or Hartley (if we play Hurls as a KPD or swing Hooker back).

Everyone does realise this is the post 2016 draft best 22 thread, right?

Rightā€¦well Iā€™ll go with:

Baguley Hartly Ambrose
Kelly Hurley Gleeson
Goddard Watson Stanton
Fanta Daniher Laverde
Walla Hooker Green
Looney Heppell, Merrett

Zaharakis, Myers, Colyer, Hocking

Pretty sure the 2016 draft is still in the past.

I liked your descriptive approach but have fiddled with your line up a little.

B: Baguley - Hurley - Gleeson
HB: Saad - Hooker - McKenna
C: McGrath - Parish - Zaharakis
HF: Stringer - Daniher - Fantasia
F: Green - Stewart - Tipungwuti
R: Bellchambers - Heppell - Merrett

INT: Smith (M/HF) - Goddard (M/HB) - Begley (HF) - Langford (C/HF)

EMER: Myers (M) - Laverde (C/HF) - Colyer (M/HF/HB) - Francis (HB) - Ambrose (HB/B) - Hartley (HB/B) - Brown (B/HB/HF/F) - Ridley (B/HB/HF)

The main thing I notice is the extent of our 3rd tall type options.
