That’s a good idea actually, coz with a grid defence spacing correctly is critical. Each player with rope connected to one another in sets of 3s. The individual lines in a grid defence typically have 3 players and they’d be about 15m apart (actually thinking off the top of my head, it’s 2 lines of 3 players about 15m and then 30m behind the man on the mark, with a couple of sweepers roughly placed outside of that to block the corridor).
I’d also force the playing group to go watch Collingwood live until they get it, buy 30 seats behind the goals top tier and force the team to go along and watch the pies each week to see how to do a proper grid defence. There’s is the best in my opinion, it keeps them in games and grinds down the opposition.
*On another note speaking of Hardwick being successful at the suns, it’s a valid point but it’s arguably the most talented list ever assembled at the moment, it’s why he took the job.
I’d much rather that they did that and bought the tickets to actually learn, rather than them buying finals tickets to simply say ‘we’re wanting to see how finals teams perform’.
Joel Selwood would be a very decent option looking at potential development coaching roles. Im sure every club has pried and looked at that opportunity. Perhaps Pops Kelly can do some convincing…
Also it doesn’t sit well with me watching on as Heppel is over in Collingwood as one of their development coaches.
He also has the best list in the competition thanks to the AFL support. Wouldn’t we love a priority pick 1 this year and unlimited access to half the state’s best 18 year olds. But yes he’s a good chance to break the recycled coach drought.
Good luck getting Selwood. Geelong are still paying him $200k a year to speak at a function a week. Absolute salary cap rorting at play continuing to pay retired players above the odds for speaking at events.
This is the key. Young coach with an experienced senior assistant. The Hird/Bomber combo worked well, not so much on field but certainly standards were raised.
