Pre season match v Saints - 28 Feb 2026 @ 3.10pm (to be played on MARS)

Hird did it as well.

I think it’s as simple as our midfield has been a weak link since forever and our backline has been pretty decent, at least on paper.

Assuming they weren’t standing in the zones of the ground they were supposed to.

I commented several times during play that Parish was walking through the middle.

Nearly every year I reckon the media highlights how lazy our mids are everyone knows we are full of one way runners.

Only zones they know of would be train and tram zones…. They barely tap on lol

Andy was great that night playing as a mid, no doubt. Nas also got the 2 votes that night and was hugely influential. My point is that I don’t think anyone can “shut him down”, especially if Nas goes forward like he was doing on saturday. It’s not as if we never get absolutely cut to shreds by small forwards is it? With McGrath playing as a full time defender.

That’s clearly player issues. No one’s says bomb it on the head of player outnumbered 6-1

This is what happens when you don’t have a gameplan.

Apparently that is the letter of the law

Another terrible, sloppily/lazily written & dumb rule

nb you can place the ball down and run off (so the umpire or the kicker’s team mate has to spend 5 or 10 seconds retrieving it) - that’s not “time wasting”. Missing the throw back by half a metre is.

The st kilda player moved back 3 steps whilst the ball was in the air. Really stupid 50 m penalty decision.

I read somewhere on socials (can’t find now) it is correct per the letter of the law.

Ie stupid rule, not stupid umpire.

( Happy to be corrected )

I think the interpretation of this rule requires the umpire to decide whether the player returning the ball needs to allow for the opposition player’s backwards movement whilst the ball is in the air. The adjudication of this depends on the distance between the 2 players. If the ball is being returned from 30 metres away it is not reasonable to expect to hit the chest of a moving target, especially when that target wants to be missed. 10 metres distance - of course hitting the chest is expected.

Rule 19.2
[award 50m penalty IF]
(e) Has not returned the football directly and on the full to the Player awarded the Mark or Free Kick;

Rules shouldn’t need “interpretation”, they should just make sense in the first place.

This would be wonderful but not realistic given the nature (limitations?) of language.

Looks like there’s a news article up on site at the moment

I imagine they will go with McGrath again and hope he does as well.

we occasionally get cut to shreds by a small, not that often i wouldnt have thought, when we do its because mcgrath isnt playing on them

I know we didn’t beat St. Kilda but look at what happened to Carlton on Thursday after winning both preseason matches.

We had a decent match last saturday Farrow and Nguyen had great run outs and Jye Caldwell and newboy Brayden Fiorini were sensational in parts I know many people on here and pundits too tip the bombers to finish bottom 4 but this team has every bit of potential to prive everyone wtong next Fridays game against Hawthorn will be the game to make a statement to the league.

Strap in tight we might be in for a lot of excitement
